Liars, Inc. #2

Dangerous Exes

Rate this book
In #1 New York Times bestselling author Rachel van Dyken’s scorching series, revenge is a justified pleasure…

Isla made one teeny little mistake. Now she and her PI company, Dirty Exes, are being targeted by one seriously angry and furiously sexy ex-quarterback. Jessie freakin’ Beckett. But there’s no way some NFL superhunk is going to take her business away. If only he didn’t make her so hot—and bothered.

Jessie wants payback for a ruined reputation. His plan? Top secret. His hard-to-hide arousal for Isla? Not so much. Especially when they let down their guards and sneak a kiss. Like any juicy scandal, it goes so viral, so fast, that only a good lie can combat the bad press. Mortal enemies in a fling? No way. Um…this is love!

Actually…could it be?

Isla’s not faking it. Jessie can’t. As the game of let’s pretend gets real, Jessie forgets all about revenge. That’s the problem. His plan is already out of his control. Now it could undo everything they’ve been trying to build. Coming clean may be the only thing that can save it.

I’m always guaranteed a good read from RVD. I am love with her writing and I so enjoy her characters.

I was excited to get Jessie’s HEA and find out how Isla ended up finding hers. This journey wasn’t always nice, the trust and communication issues top on the list, but dang I thought it was fun. These two made me laugh, made me swoon, and made me fall for another couple. It was fun getting Blaire and Colin(from book 1) included on the journey.

You want a fun, sweet, and entertaining read, I recommend this one to you ☺️

You only need a pair of binoculars to see the line between love and hate when it comes to Isla and Jessie. Isla knows she made a mistake and she's ready to move past it, but Jessie has other ideas and they aren't to just forget about all he's lost because of Isla.

I absolutely adored this couple, and I was so happy to see Jessie get the HEA he deserved after meeting him in the previous book. Isla was the perfect woman to bring color to his life, with the help of Goo-Poh (Isla's Aunt) of course, and I thought they suites each other perfectly. Their banter had me cracking up on multiple occasions while the sexual tension between them had me cheering for them to just tear each other's clothes off already.

Overall, this was an amazing story to read and one I absolutely enjoyed. But if for no other reason, you need to read this book to the brilliance that is Goo-Poh. Trust me when I say she's the perfect kind of crazy.

I enjoyed reading the first book in this series a lot and I couldn't wait to read Isla's story because she was actually my favorite character in book 1 ;) I can honestly say I was NOT disappointed... Isla and Jessie were absolutely wonderful !!

https://www.google.com/search?biw=1517

Now Dirty Exes was funny, but I really laughed my ass off with this one... Goo Poh was especially hysterical... If only I could have a great aunt like that !!

After the events in book 1, Jessie is hell bend on having his revenge...and the best revenge would be to take Dirty Exes, PI down, and leave Isla especially, with nothing. This is actually were the story lost half a point for me, because I just couldn't for the life of my understand, why Jessie was more upset with Isla, than with Blaire... Seemed like he just forgave Blaire for everything, and put all of his hate on Isla... I loved Isla, in the first book and in this one, so naturally this made me very very angry with Jessie ;)

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor little bit of an ass gif

No worries though...he makes up for it ;)

This was a light, funny, sweet and HOT story and it made me feel great !!

Isla Turner is a gorgeous woman living in LA who owns a PI company with her best friend called Dirty Exes. They are well known in Hollywood for being fixers. Then they make one mistake and it comes back to haunt them in the form of hot ex-NFL quarterback Jessie Beckett.

Jessie blames Dirty Exes for ruining his squeaky clean image, and turning his life upside down. He was finally getting his life on track when they ruined everything, and tarnished his good name. He decides the only way to fix his reputation is to destroy theirs. His main target was Isla. He'd trusted her, but they'd now gone from friends to enemies in the blink of an eye. He was angry, felt betrayed, and was prepared to get revenge and take her down.

Everywhere Isla turns there's Jessie Beckett. He's practically stalking her, and seems to get joy out of irritating her. This sexy jerk is driving her insane. He's become a thorn in her side as they continue trying to one up each other. It's war until one unexpected kiss changes everything and they then have to play nice for the press. Jessie doesn't like her, but can't help noticing how beautiful she is. Fighting his attraction was almost as hard as hating her. Isla was fascinated by him one moment, and wanted to kill him the next, but soon he becomes impossible to resist. As they spend time together, to their surprise they grow closer. He found he could be himself with her, and she made him feel vulnerable. As Isla begins falling she wonders whats real, and what's pretending? Is everything a game, or can she trust Jessie with her heart?

-He looked at me the way every woman wants to be looked at.

-“I’ve never wanted someone so desperately.”

-“I like her. I care about her, I’m falling for her chaos... I’m... drowning in it.”

-“I don’t want to hold your heart, Isla... I don’t even want to own it...” I brushed a kiss across her lips. “I just want you to share it with me.”

Dangerous Exes, book 2 in the Liars, Inc. series is a sexy, hilarious enemies to lovers romance. Both Jessie and Isla have major trust issues to overcome as they start opening up their hearts to one another. I've really enjoyed this series. Both books were fantastic! It's romantic comedy at it's best. I adored Goo-Poh. I laughed so hard, but then there were also many serious moments. This was such a beautiful story about love that just sort of sneaks up on you when you least expect it. I can't wait to read more by this fabulous author!

Dangerous Exes was a ton of fun, hilariously addicting and oh so sexy! I have been excited for this book since I finished reading the last page of Dirty Exes! I'm happy to say that I loved this book just as much as the first! Revenge, lust, friendship and romance filled this story along with my favorite thing of all, enemies to lovers. So if you're a fan of romance stories that have love to hate in the pages, then you definitely have to pick this one up.
“You’re a good kisser, Isla.” He tilted my chin toward him. “But it’s not enough— I will shut you down, that I promise.”
He walked off leaving me hot, breathless, and pissed.
I opened my car door and tossed my purse in the opposite seat, then pressed my fingertips against my lips and cursed the universe for doing the impossible. Making me feel alive again— by way of my enemy.

If you haven't read Dirty Exes yet, I highly recommend you do (here's my review). Everything started in that book and it continued to play out in this one. So going into this story, I already liked Isla Turner and Jessie Beckett. Towards the end of Dirty Exes they were slowly becoming friends and there was even chemistry between them, but that all changed. Jessie's life went up in smoke and he set his sights to destroy Isla's PI business. Just like she destroyed his life.
I hated his smirk more than I hated his body.
Because it made me react.
Hell, everything he did made me react and want to seek vengeance with a fiery purpose on his damned soul.

I couldn't help but laugh when Jessie showed up wherever Isla was. He infiltrated her life and it started to drive her crazy. But when a kiss happened between them and it became public, because of Jessie's high profile life, things shifted. Jessie was still trying to accomplish his goal, Isla was fighting back, yet now there were kisses and touches between them. I loved how they toyed with each. I loved the games they played. But I loved the passion between them the most. It was crazy addicting and created so many explosive scenes bursting with sexual tension.
She grinned excitedly, then took a deep sip and moaned as she closed her eyes. “You know me well.”
I’m sure she didn’t mean to say it.
Just like my heart didn’t mean to react to the words.
My body felt warm all over as her eyes met mine.
I cleared my throat and looked away while she returned her attention to the game.

No matter how hard Jessie wanted to hate Isla, he couldn't ignore what was between them. And Isla couldn't deny that she was attracted to Jessie and that he made her feel things. Oh I loved the both of them so much! Jessie was seductive and controlling, yet he showed us more sides of him. We learned his deepest, darkest secrets and it made me fall for him that much harder. Isla was also controlling but she had this energy to her that was addictive. She probably got it from her great aunt, Goo-Pah. That woman was hilarious and she made me laugh so hard I cried.
Maybe my view of perfection was wrong— had been wrong all along.
It wasn’t the perfect house.
The perfect wife.
It wasn’t the perfect life or career.
It was moments like this, with a woman I would never understand or deserve, lying on my lap asleep, and me wishing I could hold on to the seconds a little bit longer.

Desire and lust swirled between Jessie and Isla anytime they were near each other. With emotions and feelings mixing into the moments too, I was obsessed. And you couldn't tear me away from this book! If it's not completely obvious, I absolutely loved this book and that ending! I've realized that every single time I pick up a book by Rachel Van Dyken my spirits are always lifted. Her stories are feel good, heartfelt and continually make me smile and laugh. So I can't wait to read whatever Rachel Van Dyken publishes next!

*Thanks again to Skyscape for sending me an ARC of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.*

I absolutely loved Dirty Exes and so I was very excited about my ARC of this book. The synopsis sounded like the book was going to be right up my alley and I was looking forward to getting to know Isla and Jessie a little better. So it’s safe to say that I had very high expectations for Dangerous Exes but thankfully, Rachel Van Dyken didn’t disappoint.

This book was such an entertaining read and an absolute page turner. I loved Isla and Jessie just as much as I hoped I would and it was also so much fun to see how Blaire and Colin’s relationship continued after the first book. But I still have to say that this book just wasn’t as good as Dirty Exes. While there was a bigger plot twist in the last quarter of the book that I didn’t really see coming, there were also a few scenes that were quite boring and dragged on a bit. Furthermore, Isla had a great-aunt – Goo-Poh – who generally was a very cute and lovely character but especially towards the end of the book, I think she was a little too much sometimes and if she was my great-aunt, she’d probably freak me out a little.

So all in all, even though I didn’t like Dangerous Exes as much as Dirty Exes, I still thought it was a great book and after seeing that I’d rated the first book 5 stars, I decided to give this one 4 stars. While reading the book I also once again noticed how much I’m always enjoying Rachel Van Dyken’s writing and I’ll definitely try to still read some of her older books before the end of the year.

By the way, if you’re wondering if you necessarily have to read the first book before reading Dangerous Exes, I can assure you that both books can definitely be read as standalones.

Rachel Van Dyken continues her Liars, Inc. series with Dangerous Exes, the tale of PI dedicated to exposing cheaters Isla and hunky ex-quarterback Jessie Beckett.

When Isla took on Jessie’s vindictive ex as a client, all evidence pointed at Jessie as the guilty party. It turned out though, that he was innocent but his reputation got tarnished regardless, he lost his charity work and now he’s mad and out for blood and payback, particularly Isla’s PI company.

The only problem is that he’s also attracted to the smart and mouthy woman and when a kiss between them goes viral serious damage control needs to be done. Denying they’re arch-enemies and pretending they’re in love, moving in together and more will be their undoing, but what will happen when Jessie’s initial plan for revenge can’t be stopped?

Rachel Van Dyken’s vivacity is palpable in this fun and sexy story which is well balanced with the love-hate exchanges between Jessie and Isla, the absolutely sizzling moment and the swoon worthiness of the love that grows between them. I enjoyed every single moment from the obsessive stalking, to the pretending to the not pretending they’re more than attracted to each other.

As with the previous book in the series, which I highly recommend, Dangerous Exes has many fun and LOL moment that are share worthy, but then I’d probably be sharing the entire book and its best to enjoy it curled up in your favorite reading nook with your beverage and snacks of choice.

Both Jessie and Isla are loveable characters with the tough exterior and soft underbelly who are perfect for one another and the more they have to pretend and augment their pretend relationship the more the realize that their fake relationship is very real. He’s monochromatic while she’s all color and chaos and together they make a couple I loved reading about and rooting for.

Dangerous Exes is a funny, sweet and sexy, fast paced story I devoured in a single sitting. I loved getting Blaire and Colin from Dirty Exes back but what made the story absolutely ROFL outrageous was Isla’s nutty aunt Goo-Poh. I can’t wait to see what Rachel comes up with next.

Dangerous Exes is book #2 of the Liars Inc. series by Rachel Van Dyken. It is standalone contemporary romance told by several points of view with a happy ending.

***4 "Boner tea!!!" stars***

I've said it already too many times, but i will repeat myself for once again... I'm having such a great time with RVD's stories!!! And this one wasn't the exception!!!
The second installment of "Liars, Inc." series was even better than the previous book and much funnier!!! I loved it!!!

This book was about Isla, the other partner in "Dirty Exes" company and about Jessie Beckett, ex-quarterback and one of the main characters in the previous book!!!!
As we witnessed at the end of the previous book, something was going on between Isla and Jessie.... There was thin sexual tension between them, of course after Jessie's irritation about the bathroom "incident".... Bahahaha....
But in this book, after almost a year from the moment that they first met, the things were very different...

"Yeah, I could forgive a hell of a lot.
But I'd bled for the reputation I had.
My worst fear had come true.
And I only had one person to blame."

Jessie is pissed off and he is determined to close down the "Dirty Exes"... For an unknown and unreasonable reason, he is accusing Isla for ruining his reputation after his divorce...
Truth be told, i never understood why he was insisting that the fault was upon Isla's shoulders, when Blaire was after him too...
Isla, from the other side, was determined to not let him win... This job was her life and she was refusing to lose it by someone like him...
So, as you can understand, a kind of war is starting between them...

"It wasn't him.
Or any effect he had on me.
This was war.
And I was going to win."

It was such fun to witness the stunts that they were pulling those two...
But their attraction was too big and it brought them more problems that they could have predict...
And then, they were forced to work together and it wasn't in their favor...
How they will manage to survive from this "war"???
Will love find its way in their hearts when they are so determined to win their war???

"I may want to destroy her. But I was still a guy. A guy who knew how damn tempting she was..."

In the previous book, i can't say that i loved Jessie... It was a good guy, but nothing more...
But in here, i understood him better and i liked him very much for Isla...
He was a little bit weird... A control freak who wanted everything to be perfect in his world... He was even using only the colors black and white, for God's shake!!!! He was a freak!!!!
He was giving too much thought on the appearances and for that reason, he was getting on my nerves!!! His ex really did a number to him!!!
Thank God, Isla turned him to a different person and i liked what i saw after her influence!!!!

"Isla... I hate to look more arrogant... but I know what to do with your heart."
"Oh yeah?"
"Yeah. I don't want to hold your heart, Isla... I don't even want to own it... I just want you to share it with me."

Isla was hurt by her ex fiance and this job was her life... She couldn't let anyone to ruin that for her... Especially, a man like Jessie!!! This man was infuriated, but at the same so damn hot and that was messing with her mind...
She was determined to play his game and to win him over, but then something happened and she realized that her heart was in serious danger...
She was also a control freak, but at least, she was wearing bright colors!!!! Bahahaha...

"He really slouldn't say things like that to me...
They were dangerous.
So. Dangerous."

Those two together were perfect!!!
Yep, they went throught many things, but that things made them stronger and better than before!!!
But i have to admit that the things were moving a little bit too fast for them, but... i can accept it!!!

Well, for once again, i liked Colin and Blaire, even though i would preffer to had see them a little bit more...
But the person that took center stage in this story was Goo-Poh... God, this woman was crazy and i loved her!!!!

If anyone read the 1st book (which thank the Big Guy Above, I DNF'd right away..) you will know that this Hero was in the love triangle in the other book. He was married to one woman and was texting heroine in the first book (who is the BF/partner of this book's heroine) to show his interest in her again as she & he were former lovers. That book was a total crap fest and I forgot that this Author is on my shit list of NEVER-AGAIN-JOSE!

So while I forgot about the nightmare of the first one when I picked this one, I have absolutely no interest in reading any further. Can I please get my money back? Pretty please?????

Also, does anyone know if GR has some tool to remind me to never read anything by a certain Author? I really need to blacklist this one for good!

Rachel did it again!

Like I said in my Dirty Exes review, its very rare that I prefer a spin off series to the original but in this case I do. Dirty Exes was so good (5 stars) that im so lost on how I could rate this book cause it was phenomenal! But 5 stars is the highest GR goes. *Sobs* I really hate the damn Goodreads rating system sometimes. Like why arent there any bonus points option for times like these?? Dangerous Exes was an A++ if teachers have the option of using the extra "+" why cant I? Im starting to sound real bitter now.., *thinks of Jessie* okay im cool now. A lil horny tbh but cool as a cucumber. As I was saying...,

I could not wait for this book to release and once it landed on my kindle I devoured it in one sitting. The banter/antics between the main characters was so addictive. You could literally feel the sexual tension jumping off the page at you. Then once things started to heat up, I was burning up and swooning and smiling like a goofball cause it was just perfection and everything this hopeless romantic could have ever asked for. This book is a MUST READ as in I miss it already and need to read it again, even though its only been 8 hours. But its Jessie!!!! Once you've read this book you'll understand where im coming from and wont feel the need to point your judgy lil finger at me like im a 14 yr old love sick fool.

Side Note: im really happy that the Goo Poh in my life aint crazy! Chickens in my house would have me plotting her death.
but all the googly eyes and grabby hands for Goo Poh's secret stash of Headache Tea. Is this a real thing? Asking for a friend.

3/4 ⭐️

Recensione sul blog qui -->

Caratteristiche: Enemies-to-lovers, finta relazione, romantico, sexy, ironico
Stile narrativo: scorrevole e moderno, dialoghi frizzanti
Tipo di finale: auto-conclusivo, fine dilogia
Voto: 4.5 stelline

Dangerous Exes is an enemies to lovers story. Jessie feels he has been burned by Isla and Isla feels like she is being blamed for something that wasn't her fault.

These two start out breathing fire down each others necks but that doesn't hold up to the attraction they had been building before everything fell apart.

I'm not sure this can be a standalone. This book started right back up where book 1 left off. We have the same characters, just a shift in main characters.

We do get the added bonus of a new side character and very funny Goo-Poh, Isla's aunt. She had me laughing just as much as our main couple.

This was a fun series and I recommend both books is you want a laugh! ARC provided by NetGalley.

Thank you to NetGalley who sent me this ARC to review in advance of the book's release.

Dangerous Exes is book #2 in the Liars, Inc. series, and I did not read book #1 prior to this one. I think I may have enjoyed this book more had I read book 1 first. It does pretty heavily reference events that must have transpired in that book, however, you won't be lost if you haven't read it.

A rather predictable read, but I did enjoy it...there were some truly stellar moments that made me laugh out loud. I apologize that I can't include any quotes as it was an uncorrected proof that was distributed by NetGalley, I don't want to include something that may not be included in the final draft. I'll just say the scene stealer for me was Goo-Pah and the chickens. Gah, I'll never look at a chicken the same way! 3 stars.

To be quite honest, I skimmed this one. At this point I’m being vicious with books, I’m going through works of fiction like there’s no tommorrow so I have no mercy, hmm, now as for my impressions of this book based on the fast skim: absolutely no chemistry between the MC’s. Not a book that draws you in. What irked me from the get go was that the heroine had taken back her cheating ex numerous times, before the final break up. And what pretty much killed any romance I could envision between the hero and heroine, was the information that this hero had set his eyes on the heroine’s best friend and partner, who apparently in the previous book which I haven’t, and after this one rather doubt if I shall ever read, and had hoped to have a chance with her until he found out that his own best friend got there first. So basically we’re told from the get go, that this heroine, was this hero’s second choice. Pretty disappointing for a romance book, as far as I’m concerned. I don’t know about you. Also Petty wimpy hero, who was bent on revenge because the PI heroine had taken his wife on as a client, what degeee of petty douche-baggery can a hero stoop to before you can take their hero card back? Apparently Rachel Van Dyken sets the bar super low. Almost underneath the flooring. And that silly letter at the end. Template courtesy of the standard grand gesture committee. I’m sincerely curious, is there anyone who would be really, honestly impressed by the contents of such letter if they received it in real life? If someone wrote me such a pathetic letter, i’d Take it as a divine sign to just get out of there as fast as my legs could take me. Not so our brave heroine, she stumbles over herself in order to get to the wedding venue and get hitched. So this book was a resounding no for moi.

Copy received via Netgalley for an honest review

I thoroughly enjoyed Dangerous Exes. If you have read the first book, Dirty Exes, then you have already met our protaganists Jessie and Isla (and let me say I love that the name Isla is used!)

I loved this book from the first word to the last. I am a sucker for a frenemies-to-lovers story, and Jessie and Isla's was a great one.

I love the snark and the banter between them, all the while they are ignoring their lust and more for each other.

Oh boy do this pair get themselves into one kind of trouble after another! Just when you think things are going to go right for them - boom, another dilemma falls at their feet. And you know that things are going to go bad for them at some stage as events are revealed. However I liked that they didn't act like 12 year old

I couldn't help but cheer for them as they are falling. You just know that their relationship is never going to be boring, and that sparks are always going to be flying.

I loved getting more of Colin and Blaire (from Dirty Exes) and adore where their relationship is now at.

I can't wait to see what Ms Van Dyken brings us next.

“Il problema è che in questo romanzo ho avuto l’impressione che tutto andasse a 1000 all’ora. È iniziato di corsa ed è successo tutto di corsa... una serie di vicende a dir poco surreali si sono susseguite e io ho perso il filo logico fra di loro.”

“Quando senti di dover dipendere dall’altro per essere felice, le cose non funzionano. Il punto è che dovresti riuscire a immaginare di vivere senza la persona che ami, con la differenza che non dovresti volerlo.”

Song for summary: Delicate by Taylor Swift

This is the second novel in the Liars, Inc. series and the storyline picks up just a few months from where the first one left off. The characters are distrustful, passionate, and saucy; while the plot is a convivial and spicy romance. Chickens, a dragon bridal bed, special herbal tea, and one nutty Noona will take you on an adventure that shows just how quickly a fake relationship can turn into so much more.
