Afterlives of Empire: A Symposium on History, Family, and Fiction in Min Jin Lee's Pachinko.

Author Min Jin Lee joins us in a symposium featuring her 2017 National Book Awards Finalist and bestselling novel Pachinko, a saga of four generations of a poor Korean immigrant family fighting to control their destiny in 20th-century Japan. The symposium brings together the author with students and scholars of Korean and Japanese politics, literature, and history, who will reflect upon the themes of family, intimacy, gender, empire, and identity in the novel.
