Tennessee tight end Dominick Wood-Anderson (4) scores a touchdown during first half action against the West Virginia Mourtaineers in the Belk College Kickoff game in Charlotte, NC Saturday, September 1, 2018.

Tennessee tight end Dominick Wood-Anderson made his debut for the Vols on Saturday against West Virginia. And he did so in big fashion.

The junior college transfer caught the first touchdown of the season for UT, hauling in a 1-yard touchdown from Jarrett Guarantano.

Here's 5 things to know about Wood-Anderson.

QB1

Before Wood-Anderson was a tight end at Tennessee — or even Arizona Western, for that matter — he was playing quarterback as a high school junior.

Wood-Anderson was a starting quarterback early in high school career at Spring Valley (Calif.) Steele Canyon.

He transferred to Mater Dei in Santa Ana, Calif., for his senior season and played wide receiver and defensive line. Then he landed at Arizona Western, where he made his name as a tight end.

JUCO

Wood-Anderson became one of the nation's premier junior college tight ends at Arizona Western.

He earned the No. 2 among JUCO tight ends in the 247Sports Composite rankings. His offer list backed up the ranking, including the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Texas, Texas A&M, LSU, Oregon and USC.

Rapid recruitment

In early December, Tennessee wasn't heavily in the picture for Wood-Anderson. That changed rapidly when Jeremy Pruitt was hired.

Wood-Anderson's recruitment to Knoxville took less than two weeks. He was offered on Dec. 8, the day after Pruitt was hired. He was on campus a week later, taking an official visit barely before the early signing period.

Five days after the visit, he committed and signed with the Vols to give Pruitt an early recruiting win.

Vol Twitter wins?

The day that Wood-Anderson received a scholarship offer from Tennessee, he posted a challenge to Vols fans on Twitter.

"#VolNation Get Me To 20k Followers And I Will Be Signing To The University Of Tennessee On Dec 20th #GBO," he wrote.

He deleted the tweet a day later, by which point his follower count had eclipsed 20,000.

Wood-Anderson indeed did sign with Tennessee on Dec. 20, as he vowed. But was it thanks to Vol Twitter? Only Wood-Anderson can answer that question.

Texas temporarily

Wood-Anderson made a commitment last June, choosing Texas. But the commitment didn't last.

Four months later, Wood-Anderson was back on the market. Alabama became a major player in his recruitment, with many projections pegging him as Tuscaloosa-bound.

But Tennessee won out with a heavy push after Pruitt was hired.
