It's another big day for MPs, who will today gather for a crunch round of voting on Brexit.

It has been two weeks since Theresa May suffered a catastrophic defeat, making her deal supposedly dead in the water.

But now after we have arrived at 'Super Tuesday' which will see a raft of backbench attempts to stave off a ‘no deal’ scenario and extend our exit deadline beyond March 29.

There has been a plot twist, however, in that a Conservative amendment seemingly designed to push the PM’s apparently doomed deal over the line has emerged at the eleventh hour.

That - tabled by Sale and Altrincham MP Sir Graham Brady - not only has the support of the government, but the Prime Minister will be whipping her MPs to back it.

In other words, it is effectively a new government proposal, or at least it opens the door to one.

Here's what we know about the amendment:

What is the Brady amendment?

Theresa May will present her latest plans

The Brady amendment has been tabled by Sir Graham Brady, a Tory backbencher.

It demands that the 'backstop' arrangement, designed to avoid a hard Irish border, be replaced with an alternative.

However it isn’t specific about what that alternative could be.

The good news for Theresa May is that if the amendment manages to get a majority, the PM will be taking that back to Brussels to strengthen her arm in negotiations.

The bad news for the PM is that it is something the EU has previously ruled out.

Who is Sir Graham Brady?

Mr Brady is the chair of the 1922 Committee, which acts as the voice of Tory backbenchers.

He is the MP for Sale and Altrincham, and has held that seat since 1997.

He is 51 years old and was born in Salford before attending Altrincham Grammar School for Boys.

He lives in Altrincham and is married with two children.
