“All I can process is how vulnerable I feel in this moment. When Vincent looks at me, it’s as if he can see within me. It’s exposure I both yearn and despise.”

Wow! Fantastic. Whilst I did love Rising (Vincent & Eve book 1), that was nothing compared to how I feel about Reckoning, I loved it so much more (if that’s even possible). Jessica Ruben has such a talent and a way with words; her storytelling draws me in and utterly consumes me from start to finish. I was taken on a thrilling journey, a rollercoaster of intense emotions and I never wanted the ride to stop.

I already loved Vincent and Eve, but I grew to love them even more this time around, especially Eve. She really grew into her own, and it was such a joy to see her develop in both confidence and strength. They have such an undeniable bond, intense chemistry and a passion that was unmistakable. Their love was fierce and powerful and filled with so much angst that it kept me completely enthralled and invested right up until the very last word was read.

“I’m lost to him. All of my pain and anger seems to have gone up in smoke. I want to stay lost in his eyes and simply savor this moment and the way he’s looking at me.”

Reckoning was filled with so many themes that I love to read; the alpha and possessive hero, the timid and unassuming heroine, the push and pull between the two, the intense emotional highs and lows, the deep love, passion and desire plus the angst that poured between these pages. When you have all of this and then add the mafia/crime aspects to the story, you are left with an absolutely addictive masterpiece that owns you heart and soul.

As much as I would love to talk the ear off of anyone who would listen about Reckoning I am going to keep this review short, sharp and sweet as I do not want to reveal any spoilers for either Rising or Reckoning, because they need to be read and enjoyed without me giving anything away.

“I’m melting for this man. And it isn’t the fact that he’s insanely sexy. It’s more. It’s him.”

I have become completely and utterly captivated by Vincent and Eve and the world they have led me to. This is by far my favorite series for this year to date and I am waiting with baited breath for the finale Redemption. Reckoning finished with a monumental cliffhanger and unsurprisingly, am desperate to see how it all plays out in the end.

“His dark eyes shine, telling me he sees me. And the truth is, he’s the only one who ever has.”

There is nothing not to love about Reckoning; the storyline and characters Jessica has created for us are second to none, the deep seeded emotions that were evoked whilst being consumed with the story, the intrigue and intensity that drew me in from the very beginning. This is the reason I love to read so much, being completely overtaken by a story to the point where I feel absolutely everything. I highly recommend reading Reckoning, but make sure you read Rising first. If you’re anything like me and love your intense, angsty and emotionally driven stories, then be sure to one click Reckoning. Just be prepared for this story to slay you as it did me.

5 "This was Everything" Stars!

At the end of Rising, I was left dying for more. I felt like I had read the best book of the year. One that touched on all of my favorite tropes and feels, that felt as if it was written just for me. Reckoning quickly became my most anticipated book of the year, and my expectations were probably unfairly high. I wanted more, more gritty, more angst, more sex and intrigue and badassness and holy hell, did Jessica Ruben deliver! This was CONSUMING. It was a kick in the gut, brimming with angst and feels, twists and turns, and one wicked ending that left me completely destroyed and dying for the next part.

Seriously, what a thrilling sequel to a series that is undoubtedly the BEST of the year. It's been a long time since I've read something this good, since I've felt so giddy, so completely over-the-top in love with a storyline as I do with the Vincent & Eve series. This truly feel like it was written with my likes and needs in mind (lololololol -- I know it wasn't, but it feels that way)! Every page speaks to my romantic heart, every moment gives me pure life. It RUINS AND WRECKS, overtakes and makes me want to live inside of this story over and over and over and over again. It's that freaking good.

Vincent and Eve leave us in an intense and exciting place at the end of Rising. Jessica Ruben kicks that into high gear in Reckoning. We get to see them together, watch what happens to their dynamic in a new setting, with new people, with so many new factors that work to keep this destined couple apart. Know that you are in for one hell of a thrill ride. Vincent is a badass and Reckoning really showcases that side of him. We get to see his ties to the family, his struggles and demons, and his overwhelming need and urge to have Eve for himself. Ahhhhh! It was beyond words incredible. The connection between Eve and Vincent is so tangible, so seductive and sexy and heartwarming. I pretty much died over them.

This sequel is truly one of the best I've EVER read. Jessica brought it all, the gritty and intense, the raw and sexy, the ups and downs, push and pulls that keeps you engaged, on the edge of your seat, desperate for more of this couple. And that ending. IT IS WICKED. It leaves you desperate for more. I absolutely love and hate the feeling of being left dangling on the edge but man, am I counting down to the 3rd installment. There is no doubt in my mind that at the end of this, it's going to be one of the BEST series I've ever read. Already, it's taken a TOP spot in my heart and I can't stop obsessing over it, I can't stop recommending it to everyone I know. Frankly, this series is a MUST READ for every romance reader. Mafia + Fighter + Romance + a little Suspense = bookish heaven. What more can you even ask for? THIS. IS. EVERYTHING!

Ok, so full disclosure here: When I read the first book in the Vincent and Eve series, I went in expecting loads of angst and old school romance feels based on what others were saying about it. I enjoyed that first book very much but the giddy feels everyone else had felt somehow evaded me. I just wasn't swept away like they were. Still, I was SUPER anxious for book 2. Jessica Ruben knows how to keep a reader coming back for more because even though I wasn't quite as crazy in love with these characters as so many other readers were, that ending definitely had my chin on the floor.

Well....

For me, this second book was a game changer. Reckoning gave me ALL the feels I missed out on in Rising. I am officially DESPERATELY in love with Eve and Vincent at this moment. There's so much angst on these pages, so much intense emotion and palpable chemistry. I was infuriated. I was heartbroken. I was giddy. I felt SO MUCH. The fierce attraction, the drama, the delicious romance, the uncertainty and the maddening impossibility... IT IS INTOXICATING.

I DEVOURED this book. Reckoning pulled me in on the very first page and I was hooked until the very last. I can not wait for the rest of this storyline. Jessica Ruben delivers such a fantastic follow-up in Reckoning, I was kind of blown away. I was looking forward to this book but I went in unprepared for how much I'd love it. I was lost, swept away by the riot of tumultuous emotions, completely consumed by this impossible romance, and I was wholly impressed with her writing.

There's something so DELICIOUS about a mafia storyline and I'm an absolute glutton for a college NA romance. When you combine the two you have this crazy, chaotic storm of emotions and angst and i just couldn't get enough of what Jessica Ruben did with book 2. Reckoning is packed with old school romance vibes. I got them ALL in this book. The angsty feels, the jaw dropping cliffhanger, the push and pull between the alpha jerk and the demure heroine, the family drama and the infuriating jealousy all come together to make for one seriously addictive story. I loved this second installment, I'm fully invested in this trilogy and I CAN NOT WAIT for the finale.

After Eve put two and two together at the end of Rising, I had no idea where this story was going to lead me. She now knows that Vincent is the son of the most dangerous man in New York, a mafia prince, AND he happens to go to the same college as her. ANDDDDD he’s got a girlfriend. Getting over him is now next to impossible, with him virtually around every corner on campus, and the moment they meet again, Vincent has no intention of letting her get away again.

I could finally see what was really developing between Eve and Vincent, all thanks to getting his POV. I wanted to shake Eve sometimes because she acted quite spineless and immature, but then again, she was in Vincent’s thrall, so what else could I expect? All of the genuine angst and drama that I expected and found lacking in book one was found in this book. Not only is Eve forced to navigate college life but she’s trying to find her place in the social sphere. On top of all that, she and Vincent have to pretend in public while getting down and dirty in private, which makes for a lot of turmoil and emotional breakdowns.

The ending just about killed me. Once again, I have no idea what’s going to happen next. Hearts are broken, futures are left up in the air, and the next book isn’t out until July. I know it’s only a month away, but that’s a month too long! I need it NOW!! I’m hoping Eve has found some confidence and that I get to have all the awesomeness that is Vincent to devour once again.

***SPOILERS***

Lord have mercy.

I’m about to rant.
You’ve been warned.

EVE KILLED ME!!!!!!

I have not read such a weak, pitiful, meek, spineless, cowardly, doormat, of a heroine in so freaking long that I have forgotten how enraged these kind of heroines make me feel.

Eve sits back while Vincent flaunts his fake girlfriend Daniela all over campus and around town, watches them make out, and then an hour later allows him to put his lips on her.

I understand it was necessary for Vincent to keep Daniela’s Dad happy so he’d keep working with the mafia but Eve should’ve told Vincent to fuck off until he can be hers and ONLY hers. Or at least made him sweat a little and had him grovel and work for it. But she goes along with it, getting Vincent when she can, and accepts that Vincent will one day “leave” Daniela.

”Daniela and I have to look like a goddamn couple! You can’t get upset every time you see us together. It just won’t work.” -Vincent

The. Fuck.

Of course she’s going to get upset! He can flaunt Daniela around (even if he has to) and expects Eve to grin and bear it. But he absolutely loses his shit when Eve dances with a random guy (and Eve apologizes to Vincent for dancing with said guy even though at the same time Vincent was making out with Daniela in the corner.)

”Look at me, Eve. I cannot -under any circumstances- end shit with her right now. I need to keep her happy. This is non-negotiable.”

“I know.” I hear the whine in my voice but can’t help it.

I normally would eat this drama and angst up! But the fact Eve was so pitiful about it drove me insane!

He’s right about one thing; I’d rather have him this way than not at all. -Eve

Okay, Eve. Okay.

This wouldn’t even bother me that bad if Eve wasn’t so weak about it. She never once stood up for herself and said, NO. Or asserted some control in their relationship. She just took Vincent’s word as law. He even makes her go on a double date with him and Daniela and instead of saying, “hell fucking no I’m not” she doesn’t say a word.

Literally if I read “she looked down to the floor” one more time I was going to throw my kindle. Eve was so meek she constantly couldn’t look anyone in the eye, including Vincent. Even Vincent had to acknowledged how weak she was being ALL THE TIME.

”Do not cower in front of me. Ever. You’re stronger than that.” -Vincent

No, Vincent she’s really not. She cowers in front of everyone. I’m surprised she hasn’t ran into a fucking pole or a person she’s looking down so often.

And the absolute worst part?

At the end Eve walks into a party and finds Vincent in their bedroom with another girl half naked about to give him a blow job. Yes, Vincent set it up and wanted to intentionally hurt Eve so that she would leave him and he never actually did anything with the other woman.

But Eve didn’t know that.

And I thought to myself, YESSSSS this is where strong Eve will come out and she will lose her shit on everyone.

So what did she do? She falls on her knees sobbing and then runs out of their apartment.

And in the morning thinks to herself,

He just has to hear me out.... I can forgive him for last night, right. -Eve

She thinks he cheated and she is literally thinking about ways to get him to take her back. UGH.

And here is the thing that put me completely over the edge.

Vincent is gone, he’s been sentenced to prison (that’s why he pushed her away, so she’d move away and leave town while he’s in prison.) and so Daniela decides to get revenge on Eve by confronting her in the cafeteria in front of half the college by dumping a coffee on her head, calling her a home wrecking whore, and tells everyone Eve is the reason Vincent was sent to prison.

At this point I’m furious and on the edge of my seat like, “okay this is it, Eve will NOT let this bitch bully and humiliate her, she’s going to fuck her up, or at least stick up for herself.

And what does she do?

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

She allows Daniela and eventually the rest of the school to bully her badly, and does nothing. Absolutely nothing. Never even once sticks up for herself. She just keeps her head down and cries.

By this point I was DONE with Eve.

So thank goodness for Vincent and the overall story because they were my only saving grace. Even though I couldn’t stand Eve I still adored her and Vincent’s love, them together was swoon worthy and is what saved the story that Eve by herself almost ruined.

Okay. Rant over.

Sigh. I just had such high hopes for this installment. I thought for sure Eve would go off to college, gain some confidence and learn to add some steel to her spine. Sadly she only got worse. Which sucks because the story was actually pretty good. The drama and angst was high in this one and I live for that in my reads.

Will I read book three?

*Sigh*

Yes I will. Even though Eve drove me crazy I still very much care about what happens to Vincent and their story together. Since this one ended on another cliffhanger I’m eager to see where book three picks up. Will Eve be graduated law school? Will she be pregnant from her and Vincent’s last tryst at the end of book two? Will she now
have a kid? Will she be living in Cali? Will she have waited on Vincent? Or will she have FINALLY developed a backbone and became her own person?

I can’t wait to find out. I’ve made it this far in the Eve and Vincent saga so I can’t wait to see how their story concludes.

FOR GOODREADS
ARC
I am going to keep this really simple. This girl is a happy girl!
Reckoning was DIVINE! I devoured RISING (book 1), so it's safe to say I was eagerly waiting for book 2. Jessica did not disappoint with Reckoning at all!
What a story! What an amazingly intense story between these two characters, Vincent and Eve.
Jessica has written a book where the chemistry is high, the drama is unnerving, the angst is frustrating and exciting and the passion is 'real'. hahahaha

There's just something about Vincent and Eve that gets you addicted..maybe it's the fact that Vincent is attentive and protective. Or, maybe it's the fact that Eve is, at times naive, but genuinely a sweet girl. Vincent and Eve captures the readers and make us, root for them through thick and thin.

I will say this, I was not happy when I realized that I had to wait to read what happens between these two characters.

If you have read this book, what did you think about it? If you haven't, I'd definitely recommend the book. I have high expectations for book 3, and a few hopes and dreams for Vincent and Eve.

Happy Reading!

Reckoning is the second book in the Vincent and Eve series. I have a love and hate relationship with cliff-hanger endings. I don’t really mind it, but if I wait too long, I forget what happens and I’m fucked.

I like this series, although at times I feel like it can be a long, the beginning was a little slow. I stopped reading a few times, but once you get to the 40% mark everything happens pretty fast and it was exciting and addicting to read.

I love Vincent and I like that he has to stay with that other girl in public. I think it adds a nice tension. I like Eve, but good grief she can get on my nerves. I hope she grows bigger balls in the next book.

I like the chemistry and relationship between Vincent and Eve. I liked that it’s the hero chasing after the Heroine and he is really domineering. He will not take no for an answer and I really liked that. I do think there is a touch of insta-love, but it makes for a dramatic and romantic book so I’ll take it.

Eve is a Freshman in college and all she wants to do is finish school and become a lawyer. Vincent has too much baggage and she doesn’t to be a part of that, but Vincent doesn’t care! He takes what he wants and he wants Eve back.

I felt like the ending was a touch predicable, but I know there needs to be tension for the next book. I liked the steam in this one and I hope that carries into the next book. I want Eve to be stronger and not cry all the time! I’m curious about the mafia politics and I hope to see more of that. But most of all, I hope I don’t forget about this series when I start the next book!

What has Jessica Ruben, done to me?!? Jessica Ruben, Master Storyteller and Magician of Words, has made me her prisoner where I’m CAPTIVE to every word she brings to life. I was so HUNGRY for Reckoning that I DEVOURED this romance like the DELICIOUS DELIGHT it was. I could not and did not want to escape the Vincent and Eve World. RECKONING HAS IT ALL—a pulse-pounding plot full of paralyzing intensity and edge-of-your seat thrills, swoon-worthy characters, and an overarching toe-curling romance that will render romance readers breathless and begging for more. EVERY ROMANCE LOVER MUST MEET RECKONING!!!

Reckoning swiftly sucked me up, struck me hard, and became MY WORLD. Reckoning owned every ounce of me. I was ENAMORED from the first page and have been UTTERLY CONSUMED with every word of the Vincent and Eve world since. I was putty in Reckoning’s hands. This adventure in words became my ache ... my addiction ... MY ALL. I WAS AT RECKONING’S MERCY!

His dark eyes shine, telling me he sees me. And the truth is, he’s the only one who ever has.

Reckoning is the story of a stunning and strong hero and heroine who find solace together while risking it all for love. You’ll crush hard on Vincent and admire Eve, a duo perhaps forged by fate. You’ll feel the kismet between the hero and heroine as if they were made for each other.

”I’ve got you.”

Vincent is a dark knight and Eve is his daring damsel, and oh did their love story make me melt! I know I’ve rattled on about my love for hundreds of fictional heroes over the years but Vincent?!? Vincent is towards the top of my ultimate alpha list. This all alpha owned every ounce of me. He’s so possessive it’s lethal. He’s hot. He’s heady. He’s heartwarming. He’s IT!

”You’re mine, do you understand?”

In Rising, Eve was a caged butterfly fearful to spread her wings but in Reckoning, oh did Eve fly to the sky! I loved witnessing this heroine’s growth, her evolution of confidence and strength. Eve is as bold as she is brilliant and beautiful, and she is a force with which to be reckoned!

My life has been increasingly fragmented. But with Eve? I’m whole.

Reckoning is a HEART-RUSHING ROLLER COASTER of a mafia meets YA romance that twisted and turned around my heart where all I could do was sit back and enjoy the exhilarating and emotionally-rich ride. Reckoning made my HEART BLEED and my SOUL SOAR, and I can't stop feeling this romance. The SWOON is off the charts! Reckoning’s razor-sharp intensity was MY UNDOING! The PARALYZING POTENCY of this heartwarming and heartbreaking book BURNED through me like fire. Reckoning BLASTED through me like countless cannons catapulting my heart, surging straight to my soul, as I felt this story’s explosion GO BOOM EVERYWHERE!!!

He’s a hunter, and I’m the deer about to get speared.

I FELT EVERYTHING in a story and series that has quickly become MY EVERYTHING. Poignant, passionate, and powerful, Reckoning is ABSOLUTE PERFECTION and one of the BEST SERIES I’ve met! Reckoning OWNS every ounce of me. I was a GONER—so WONDERFULLY WRECKED by Reckoning. Hook. Line. Sinker. THIS LOVE STORY SLAYS ALL THE WAY!

”Don’t you know, from the minute I met you, it has only been you?”

OMG first Book 1, Rising was a fantastic debut but Reckoning ahhhhhhh even better. I’m utterly consumed by Vincent and Eve.

Their story is full of complicated messiness but their bond is undeniable and you feel that throughout this book. I’ll tell you that as soon as I read the first few words I was immediately taken back to the ending of Rising. And just as my heart pounded at the end of that my heart raced at the beginning of Reckoning.

I’ll stop you here if you haven’t read Rising go now right now and grab that book because this series is amazing and I’m in book heaven.

The entire time reading this had me ready to combust. So much to this relationship and it’s surrounded by those that just want it to go away and the entire time I’m reading I’m waiting for the shoe to drop but I’m soaking everything up in the meantime.
The touches, the looks, the declarations to one another. Vincent and Eve’s feelings for one another are so intense.

Ahhh this series is just so good. I tried not to devour this book I wanted to savour it for as long as I could. I immediately want more and I think I might just reread this from the very beginning.

It’s just that good.

“One foot in one world, one foot in another.”
-
This complicated Love story deserves its Happily Ever After, but Vincent & Eve were in a trial of unprecedented events that lead to either the destruction or the revival of their love..
-
"I once read that every passerby has a life as vivid and complex as my own."
-
When I started this book I had high hopes &had already gone through so many speculations & what I got,
Something even much much better & that damn cliffhanger made me want to screech & throw a fit.. Because I wanted more..guess I'll have to wait.
-
"You aren’t dying. Your heart’s just broken."
-
Now I had this theory - I was rooting damn hard for the revival of their love, I had gone through all the parts & just hope for the love of all god that they be together, but reality doesn't work like that.
-
"She was wrong about something. Control isn’t lost. It just falls into someone else’s hands."
-
You see when I read those last words in Rising.
I thought maybe just maybe book 2 will be something that can mend it
And you know what happened?
....
Jessica did mended my heart with this book, she gave me parts with her fascinating words,
she coated the love in such a delicate way and gave me.
The love Vincent and Eve had, I was feeling in her words, but Alas my happiness was not for too long, remember when I said about we need to come to reality?
-
" Still, the past remains with me. The result is a sense of not really belonging anywhere."
-
The Author made EVERYTHING THING REAL! From heartbreaks to sorrows, from anger to lust from love to again the biggest heartbreak I could feel.
-
“I’m a made man. This is my destiny.”
-
I saw a unbreakable man fall apart.. I read a beautiful broken Angel crashing down so hard that she never wanted to get up..
The Throne had fallen and so had the king & queen and what was left of the rubble was their shattered heart.
-
“I carry your heart. I carry it in my heart.”
-
This book broke me, mend me & made me whole again, but in the it broke me again.
I can't with that ending.
Every love needs a chance and I hope I seriously hope that love will conquer every pass and this tragedy would be a brutal yet a beautiful tragedy.
-
"Never in my life have I felt heat and energy like this."
-
Reckoning is a Rare mixture of both College + Mafia Romance that is filled with LOADS OF ANGST!! The banter was off the charts!😂
Eve's sassy mouthing & cute anger mixed with Vincents broody attitude & hilarious remarks was a joy to read.
-
"Never in my life have I given a fuck about my looks. But the way Eve is looking at me now—memorizing every feature of my face—makes me want to give God a high five."
-
I just can't stop praising Jessica's story line & now she's making me excited with anticipation of what will happen next.. GAHHH! I can't freaking wait!!!
-
"Eve’s hair. Eve’s lips. Eve’s body. Eve’s smile."
-
So..
What we learn from this blabbering -
If your heart flutters if you read about a young, smartass, Intelligent Mafia Hero & It dances with joy when you read a shy, sassy & smart Heroine In a story that has lots of Action, Angst & heated moments with a tinge of cliffy bombs that could stop break your heart -
Then my book lovelies this Series is for you!!

This relationship makes no sense. If you grew up in a dangerous area and worked in a pawn shop that was associated with the mafia and yet refused to let the mafia help you with a situation you were in - why would you then date a person at the top of that mafia? Why would you be ok with the things they are into? How can you willingly enter a relationship with someone who is only going to keep you a secret and then gets mad at you when you get justifiably angry/jealous when confronted with him being with another girl? Eve was naïve in the first book, but she ups it to a whole new level of doormat in this one. I'm kind of reluctant to continue on and will probably stop here. Disappointing considering how much I enjoyed the first book.

I swear to God my poor heart is bleeding now! Jess please quit playing with my heart. Or keep it on. Vincent and Eve. One more time. Their story gives and takes it all. No measures. No hesitation. No reserves. Everything. It will bring you to heaven and the Hell as well. And you will fell on that damn trap. So dangerous but so irresistible as well. Because this is who Vincent is. Alpha, demanding, attractive and so dangerous. She should stay away from him now that everything had gone down. But what it links them is something out of charts. Uncontrollable, madly, intense and unique. Second chance is inevitable. Because their chemistry is going deep above any logic, rule or duty. But when reality hits it hits really hard. Broking everything. In millions pieces, dreams, hopes, love, trust. All gone with the wind. I can't believe what you done, Jess. Please put my broken heart back together. I want to see that TOGETHER!!!!

I'm so in love with Eve and Vincent! Their story just keeps getting better! Rising was unbelievably amazing, and Reckoning was fantastic! It was almost perfect for me!

While I loved how crazy Vincent was about Eve, it bothered me at how possessive he was of her but how he couldn't see how much it hurt Eve to see him be with someone else, even if he didn't want to be. I also would've loved more details. While I loved seeing them get together, it felt like more details of their relationship in the early stages would've helped. I also would've loved to know how Eve survived the end of her first year at college when everyone was against her.

I'm really excited to see what happens in Redemption. Eve and Vincent go through a lot in this book and I can't see how they'll find their way back to each other, but I'm eager to see how Jessica Ruben finesses it. Reckoning has passion and emotion to spare, and if you enjoyed Rising you will love enjoy Reckoning. I know I did! I had the hardest time putting it down!

This book! OMG. I devoured it with my heart pounding and my ass on the edge of my seat. Reckoning is so. freaking. good. Vincent is absolutely amazing. I just want to climb onto his lap and hold him! I love him and Eve together, but I wish she was a little stronger. I feel like she’s getting there. I’m really hoping to see her stand up for herself more in the final book. I seriously can’t wait to see how this all plays out. I will be dying waiting for the conclusion of this awesome trilogy!!

Reckoning picks up right where the first book ends with Eve's revelation that Vincent is THE Vincent Borignone, a member of the largest crime family on the East Coast. His lack of honesty with her leaves her feeling betrayed and questioning if every moment with Vincent was fake or real.

The drama is hyped up as Vincent also appears to have a long term girlfriend at his side. They are the ultimate golden couple with a huge social media following and swimming in wealth. However, everything is not as it seems. There is a lot of college girl drama spurred on by jealousy and insecurities that create some fun entertainment.

Despite the situation, Eve and Vincent do get their moments of love and intimacy in this book. And no there is no cheating or love triangle. I loved their passion and chemistry! Vincent is still possessive and protective in all his alpha male hotness. His acts of selflessness to protect Eve made me fall for him even more.

Eve was not my most favorite character in this book because she made her insecurities overrule her. She cried just one too many times for me in this one and she seemed to lose her backbone. I really hope she gains back some self confidence in the last book because Vincent needs a strong woman to stand at his side. Also let me just say I love mafia books and I loved getting to know Vincent as the made man revealed and we experience everything he needs to do for the family. I felt that a part of this story was illogical because someone who should have been a nobody, yielded too much power over this family. I couldn't wrap my head around that.

Regardless, I am fully invested in Eve and Vincent's story and I am absolutely dying to read the conclusion because that ending leaves us hanging on to dear life. This author does an amazing job of getting you fully engrossed in these character's lives and leaving you wanting more.

In Book 1 of Jessica Ruben’s Vincent and Eve series, Eve rose above her mother’s constant neglect and verbal abuse, the Blue Houses’ violence, and her poor girl circumstances; she achieved her goal, making it out of the ghetto and giving herself every advantage to never return, which means that she’s not going to abuse this chance, even when things become a lot more complicated due to Vincent’s celebrity status and presence on campus as well as Eve’s struggle to differentiate between what’s real and what’s show when it comes to who Vincent associates with and what his role is in the family business.

A day of reckoning seems inevitable for Vincent and Eve, not only because of the dangers of Vincent’s world and his status as a made man destined to takeover for his father, but also because of the reality of their feelings for each other and the threat that poses to their current lives as well as their futures.

Ruben makes sure that her readers understand the difficult position that Vincent is in; he’s attempting to prove to Eve that what they have is real and that he wants to be with her, while still doing what needs to be done to appease his father and honor the code he lives by. This is definitely not an easy feat given the circumstances he has to deal with when it comes to the various roles he must play, which means eventually something has to give.

Eve, once again, feels like she doesn’t belong, partly due to the duality of Vincent’s life and how it makes her feel but also because she continues to question her relationship with him as well as the superficiality of those around her. Eve is in an extremely tenuous position, and I can’t blame her for her feelings of insecurity or her inability to let Vincent go despite the knowledge of who he is and what he does.

At the end of Reckoning, things go down that will unequivocally alter both Vincent and Eve’s lives, but where that leaves them heading into book 3 is still unclear. There are a series of obstacles that at this seem insurmountable, but if readers have learned anything about Eve and Vincent throughout the first two books in the series it’s that they’ll fight for what they want and not allow anything or anyone to interfere, but what that means for their redemption is still too soon to tell.

The continuation of Vincent and Eve’s story illustrates exactly what these two are up against, and as Jessica Ruben provides readers with further insight into exactly who Vincent is and why he does what the does, we can’t help but understand the precarious position he’s in and while some will not condone his decisions or his actions, I can’t help but see everything from both Vincent and Eve’s perspectives, which means that once all truths are revealed and understood, I still hold out hope that they’ll both be redeemed.

Didn't enjoy this as much as the first, however the writing and plot line remained great.
I just wished the heroine had more spine, the was the ultimate doormat ( I was expecting more aggression and anger from her when she found about the hero and his side piece. Super disappointed she become completely pliant)

overall, need to read this for completion sake. Shall wait for the 3rd and final book coming out in September

Reckoning: Vincent & Eve #2 by Jessica Ruben
5 stars!!!

“Tell me this is real, Vincent.”
“This is never-ending.”

I was blown away by the first book in this series, Rising. Jessica Ruben was a brand-new author and I am always a little hesitant, not knowing what to expect, but I needn’t have worried. Second worry is always that book two doesn’t live up to the first, but alas, she blew that one out the water too, in my opinion this one was even better! So, if you loved Rising, be prepared for Reckoning, because this one was absolutely fantastic. College life and mafia life intermingled into one deliciously sexy, intriguing, unputdownable read and one that will definitely leave you salivating for the next one.

Jessica Ruben is definitely insanely talented, the way she has drawn the readers into Vincent and Eve’s story so effortlessly is something magical. Her character connection is on point, the emotions are on point and the dialogue is fantastic. This story is a page turner from start to finish, just like a tub of Pringles, once you pop, you cannot stop and I devoured every single bit of it.

Vincent and Eve’s story only really just got going in Rising, Vincent was this enigma who just seemed to pop up here and there, but now, these two are at the same college and the whole book is just about them. Their connection is powerful, their chemistry electric and their love for one and other all-consuming, but Vincent leads a difficult life and is reticent to drag Eve into the life she is trying her hardest to escape from.

“I was so afraid at that time when really, you were the one I should have been afraid of.”

Eve is still her shy, timid self, trying to keep her head down and her grades up, but once she realises that Vincent is at the same college, her focus is immediately turned to him, even though she knows that she should stay away. Vincent is one of those guys that everyone knows or is aware of, one of the clique but he still keeps his own head down. He has his own agenda, is incredibly intelligent and tries to keep a low profile. However, he too is unaware that Eve is at the same college and when their eyes meet, Vincent is just as taken aback and once again, the fire reignites.

“His dark eyes shine, telling me he sees me. And the truth is, he’s the only one who ever has.”

Jessica Ruben brings her ‘A’ Game with an intense read, emotional highs and low and a delicious amount angst that only adds to the story. Not only do you get the best of a college romance but with the mafia aspect interspersed throughout you get the best of both worlds, and especially towards the end, the mafia aspect comes into its own.

“Somehow, my life has become increasingly fragmented. But with Eve? I’m whole. She’s someone I can’t afford to lose.”

I am desperate for Redemption, in the book sense of course, I mean I’m an angel lol, but this third book has been lined up perfectly and I cannot wait to see what happens between this couple. With a fantastic curveball, expertly thrown, Jessica Ruben certainly knows how to keep the readers hooked and everyone is going to be waiting on tenterhooks for the final instalment.

“I can’t stay away from you. I need you. Don’t you need me? I can’t be near you and not have you.”

Jessica Ruben, you are incredibly cruel but also incredibly talented and I am so glad I took a chance on this series. This series is one of my favourites of the year and without a filler book in sight I cannot wait for more. A definite must read for those that love their college romances but also love a good mafia read too.

I just finished this book and I don’t even know how to process what I just read! I enjoyed the first book but this book blew me away! There is so much chemistry, tension and angst between Vincent and Eve and I wasn't sure how much my heart could take at times! It still blows my mind that this is Jessica Ruben’s second book!

This book picks up right where we left off and things are so tense and confusing! I felt deeply for both characters and I felt their emotions while reading and honestly I was torn. I understand Vincent’s issue but Eve was stuck in an hard place as well. I have to say I loved how Eve evolved throughout this story. It was nice seeing her becoming more confident and standing her ground even when she was scared.

What can I say about Vincent? I loved him and he was such a dominant, possessive and protective man. He has the weight of the world of his shoulders over the life that was chosen for him and the life that he wants to live. What is a man to do in his position?

I can’t stress how much I loved this book!! The writing, the story telling, was OFF THE CHARTS!!!! The pacing was perfect and the last few chapters had me glued to my kindle and left me filled with question as my heart was being ripped apart. I honestly don’t like to read trilogies because the future books in my opinion lack depth but this is NOT the case in this trilogy. I can’t wait to read “Redemption” and see how Vincent and Eve conclude! Well done, Jessica Ruben!!

4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Stars! Great 2nd book. Vincent and Eve’s story only gets better. Eve has had to work really hard to get to college, now she’s about to transfer to a new college for a brand new start. What’s going to happen now that the mafia prince has to put his life on hold? Hope the final book does their story justice.

I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book I didn't want it to end I love them so much.

Our star crossed lovers are reunited unexpectedly but things are do complicated. Vincent is juggling his role in the family business with college and seeing Eve again is just a complication he doesn't need.Oh the angst and drama is off the charts so many secrets and manipulation with everyone conspiring against them.

I was not repared for that ending that leaves so many possibilities for book three I just hope it's soon.

GAH!!!!!!! Dare I say it...I loved RECKONING more than I loved RISING!! Dont hate me! Its not a bad thing, because i really enjoyed the first book, i just enjoyed this one WAY more. I really think Jessica Ruben got into her stride here, and you can already see her writing growing. This book was so packed with drama and angst, i felt constantly on edge, wondering what was going to happen. Not gonna lie, i was really angry with Vincent at the end of RISING and I hoped that EVE was going to make him suffer. That part of the storyline was quickly dealt with though, and I started to see Vincents reasonings, and forgave him a little.
This is shaping up to be a phenomenal series, and I am so hyped for the third book. I think its fair to say that Jessica Ruben is going to be one to watch in the future.

This book has so much angst wow. I did like this book, the storyline, the characters and the writing is just so good. I read this book in 1 day, couldn't put it down. However, the actions of Eve really irritated me. this was such a huge let down, I get it, she's shy, thats fine...BUT she just does what everyone tells her to and is such a pushover sometimes it is so annoying, like maybe someone who has been through such difficult times in life should try and better their situation more than other things!!!, why does she not try eurghhhh. I understand she's shy. Fine! But she has the best opportunity to finally have a life and if she's just sooo gorgeous (eye roll) surely she should at least try and find "love" or just something with another guy other than fu**cking Vincent!!!!

I get it, I like Vincent like a lot, he's a great guy and I like him a lot better than Eve, but a girl has got to have some self-esteem especially someone like Eve should have some sense of self-preservation.

Although, Vincent isn't perfect, like if she deserves better because she's SO "innocent" "pure" WTF is he sending her mixed signals at the end of the book!!! just leave her, I understand he is selfish, like he said himself, thats fine, we're all humans BUT when shit gets serious he was just as a**hole for being selfish like leave her to have a better life, she's had such a rough life whereas Vincent is super rich going out with a rich model girlfriend etc etc YET he still cant help himself potentially ruin a girls life because she's "pure" and "made for him". Im annoyed I expected this book to be better but oh well. I will obviously be reading the last book because I need to know how this mess ends. I have a really bad feeling she's pregnant... oH and that just reminds me- did he really have rough unprotected sex with EVE just before leaving ?!! Im ending this because I could just go on and on :/

Beautiful and heart-wrenching. I got my high for drama.

SPOILER FREE

I went through hell and back to be where I am, and I won’t let a man stop me from succeeding.

P L O T

Vincent and Eve in one school, his lies are catching up to him and his two lives are coming together. She’s been kept in the dark for so long but she’s clawing her way out from six feet under and playing a game she not equipped to take part in.

Part of me wants to die, but another part of me wants to show his ass up. I never want to feel like this again. And I refuse to ever be that girl I used to be; I was naive and stupid.

Exciting, thrilling, romantic, and dramatic, all in one! What more could you ask for? Fast-paced leaving no room for rest. Sacrifices are made, losing yourself in the process.

And the moment our eyes met, everything clicked in place.

C H A R A C T E R S

Eve
I worry a lot for her in this book because she’s distracted by Vincent’s presence and the drama he brings that I’m scared it’ll ruin her scholarship. Love makes you blind, or it just helps you see past the darkness of a person and see their true light.

She’s the queen, and I’m nothing but her servant.

Vincent

Sweet, scary Vincent didn’t see anything coming. I’m glad he knows he’s not entirely a good person but he’s not entirely bad either. Selfish, yes, but all humans are.

He’s a hunter, and I’m the deer about to get speared.

Daniela

I love Daniela, I always love a good bitch. She’s the perfect crazy bitch! She’s crazy about her image and would stop at nothing to get her way. It’s not easy to manipulate people, it eats up you humanity and you have got to be a little cuckoo in the head to make a life out of it.

The party may be full, but we may as well be alone. His face is so close to mine that I can feel the energy coursing between us. Right now, it’s no one and nothing other than us. My heart falters as he speaks to me with his eyes. Everything in this moment becomes so simple.

Tom annoys me most of the time but I understand he’s only looking out for his best friend - Vincent - and what’s best for everyone else. I love Claire, she’s this semi-wild, smart-ass best friend you’d want for the rest of your life.

“I carry your heart. I carry it in my heart.”

W R I T I N G

Jessica Ruben’s stories just keep getting better. If I thought Rising was amazing, with that cliffhanger, I clearly haven’t seen anything yet.

Vincent is turning me into a monster.

Finally! We get to read Vincent’s POV and his mind is full of bloody flowers and guns and bullets.

This man is going to be someone important one day; I can just feel it.

O V E R A L L

I love how the author ends each book with the promise of a new adventure in the next one. I cannot wait for Redemption, I feel like it’s going to be such a painful ride for Vincent and Eve.

His dark eyes shine, telling me he sees me. And the truth is, he’s the only one who ever has.
