In June 2018, Carson began experiencing symptoms of pneumonia and by early July was hospitalized at Mayo Clinic Saint Marys Hospital. Doctors administered strong antibiotics and after 5 days, Carson was released back home with a prescription for daily antibiotic infusions for 4-weeks.

Carson rested and received his daily infusions; however, he continued to struggle with worsening symptoms and dropping blood oxygen levels.

On Friday, July 20th, Carson's parents brought him back to Saint Mary's ER where he was admitted once again. The following Monday, July 23rd, doctors determined the source of Carson's pneumonia to be a fungal infection called blastomycosis. While not uncommon, the complications Carson has experienced with this infection have been described as 1 in a million.

The infection wreaked havoc on his lungs. He was eventually placed on a ventilator, but his lungs continued to fail and on Tuesday, July 24th the decision was made to place him on a heart and lung bypass machine (life support) called Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation or ECMO.

This machine takes the carbon dioxide rich blood from Carson's body, removes the carbon dioxide, then oxygenates the blood and returns it to his body.

Carson has been on ECMO since. His progress will be measured by weekly rather than daily progress. His mom, dad, and sister have been by his side through this journey.

And, his journey will be difficult and arduous. It is not clear how long Carson will be connected to ECMO. It may be weeks or months. Since being placed on a ventilator, and eventually ECMO, Carson has been in a medically induced coma so his body can rest and heal.

He has begun be to be awakened and we pray his recovery continues in this positive trajectory. Please join us in prayer for complete healing and a powerful recovery process. Pray that Carson's emotional, mental, and spiritual life will flourish even as he faces intense difficulties. Pray for strength for Carson and his family.

The goal of this fundraiser is $50,000, but as you can imagine, the cost of medical care Carson requires will far exceed this mark. Our hope is that during Carson's recovery he will not have to worry about finances.

Carson has committed his life in service to others through ministry. His love for people is evident in his compassionate presence and engaging spirit. Now, it is our turn to bless Carson. Please give generously as you are able.

Thank you -
