Is there a COVID-19 eviction moratorium in California? Find out the answer to this, and how federal, state, and local laws might protect renters from being displaced during the pandemic.

The panelists will also provide attendees:

  • An overview of California’s eviction process
  • Explain the federal and state rules that have passed to protect renters
  • Give examples of local counties and cities that have passed eviction protections
  • Discuss how the right to reasonable accommodations in housing might help individuals with disabilities who are not protected by any of those rules.   

Speakers:

Navneet Grewal works as Litigation Counsel for the Civil Rights Practice Group at Disability Rights California. Through all of her work, Navneet strives to eliminate the harmful and ongoing impacts of a history of segregation and discrimination. Prior to joining DRC, Navneet was a Senior Attorney at Western Center on Law and Poverty, a statewide legal services support center that fights, through litigation and legislative and policy advocacy, to secure housing, health care and a strong safety net for low-income Californians.

Lucia Choi is an attorney at Disability Rights California.  She litigates cases that challenge discrimination and aim to protect and advance the rights of individuals with disabilities.  Her main focus and background is housing and homelessness. Prior to joining DRC, Lucia was an attorney with Neighborhood Legal Services and Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, where she represented tenants in the Los Angeles area.​

Heidi Joya is a Staff Attorney in the Civil Rights Practice Group at Disability Rights California, where she focuses on housing work and addressing disability discrimination. She represents tenants across Los Angeles County in unlawful detainer actions and other housing-related matters as part of the countywide Measure H program.
