Congratulations to another accredited specialist, Annette Murray

Get paid to participate in an interview about online legal information

Monash University is researching how Victorians use online legal information. They are interested in people trying to resolve legal matters without professional legal help.

You are eligible to participate in an interview if you have recently represented yourself in a civil matter in a Victorian court or tribunal.

Interviews will take approximately 45 minutes at a time and place that is convenient for you. Participants will remain anonymous and will receive a $75 Coles Myer gift card.

Health Translations Directory

The Health Translations Directory is an online library funded by the Victorian government, which provides links to more than 14,000 translated health and wellbeing resources produced in Australia, in more than 100 languages.

The directory includes resources on a range of topics and issues relating to children, youth and families, housing, disability, ageing and legal issues. This includes Victoria Legal Aid translated resources in a range of languages.

Providing a fast, convenient and free way to access translated resources, you can search by topic, language or organisation. 

All resources are checked regularly to ensure reliable and up-to-date information.

White Ribbon Day – 25 November

White Ribbon Day seeks to change the attitudes and behaviours that lead to and perpetuate men's violence against women. Men and women are encouraged to wear a symbolic white ribbon on Saturday 25 November.

County Court user survey – 27 November

On Monday 27 November, the County Court will conduct a court-user survey.

Every person who enters the County Court in Melbourne on this day (other than staff and people in custody) will be given an opportunity to provide feedback on their experience at the court via a short survey.

Participation is encouraged from clerks, lawyers and visitors to the court.

If you are attending court on that day, please take a few moments to complete the survey which will assist the court in better understanding the experience of being a court user.

The Problematic Abolition of Defensive Homicide – 28 November

In November 2014, the Victorian offence of defensive homicide was abolished following a widely held perception that it was being 'abused' by violent men.

This panel event, facilitated by Professor Bronwyn Naylor, RMIT University, and featuring Victoria Legal Aid's Executive Director Criminal Services Helen Fatouros, will provide an opportunity to reflect on some of the missing voices during the controversial debates surrounding defensive homicide's operation.

Human Rights Week – 4 to 10 December

The theme for Human Rights Week 2017 is ‘Human rights start with you’. It's a simple but important message – each of us has a part to play in ensuring the principles of freedom, respect, equality and dignity are alive in our workplaces, schools, communities and even among our friends and families.

Faith-based governance and dispute resolution conference – 5 and 6 December

Faith-based organisations are the largest category of charity in Australia, making a significant impact on social wellbeing.

The two-day conference will showcase and discuss best practice governance for faith-based organisations.

The conference is aimed at faith-based organisations, including their leadership and boards, as well as public sector workers, regulators and legal and other academics.
