Domhnall Gleeson said he’d always want to work with his father, after dad Brendan lifted the lid on the risks involved with working with family.

The 35-year-old actor credited his award winning father Brendan Gleeson as one of the best in the business and told Irish Daily Mirror he looks forward to their next project together.

The Harry Potter actor said: “I’d always love to work with my dad. We did a short film together he directed and acted in just before Christmas so we worked together reasonably recently.

“I will look forward with doing anything else with him again, he’s just one of the best around.”

Domhnall was in town for the European Premiere of his latest starring role in Lenny Abrahamson’s The Little Stranger at The Light House Cinema in Dublin on Wednesday evening.

He was joined by friends and family with his proud dad Brendan also stepping out in their native city to support his son on the occasion.

And, while Domhnall said he loves being able to work with his actor father, Brendan has recently lifted the lid on the potential risks involved with working so closely with his sons.

The award winning family got together for their dad’s directing debut in Psychic last year, and Brendan admitted working with family can be challenging.

He said: “You have to be true to the work but at the same time I don’t want to lose my family.”

“If you are working with family, well you have to put the family at the top of the tree. You don’t want the work to suffer and so it can get a bit ropey.”

The short film was a real family affair, written by his son Rory, starring sons Brian and Domhnall, with music by his other son Fergus.

But despite some risks and challenges involved, the award-winning actor from Dublin, said: “I like working with them, it kind of keeps me on my toes.”

The 63-year-old explained how they managed to make it work, and said there must be a ‘shift’ in priorities when it comes to mixing business with pleasure.

Looking back, he said the family project even allowed him to spend more time than usual with his musical son Fergus, who he described as ‘his right-hand man’ on the project.

Joking about how the family came out of the project, he said: “It’s fascinating and so far, touch wood, we’re still talking.”

The doting dad added that he’d never rule out future family work, saying he’d be crazy not to work with his sons.

“Ah yeah, I’d hope to do more stuff with them, I mean I’d be crazy not to and yeah I enjoy working with them.

He added: “I’d just hope we’d all just loosen up a small bit, especially me.”
