Prayers for...
the Rev. Emily Gibson, priest of this diocese living in Delaware, upon the death of her mother, Jane P. Gibson, 95, of West Paris on October 11. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 21, at 1 p.m. at Christ Church, Norway. Her obituary may be found here.

PARKING UPDATE:
Please park in the Casino parking garage, across the street from the Cross Center on Main Street. Handicap parking is also available at the garage.
Hollywood Casino at 500 Main Street is directly across from the Cross Center's Rotunda entrance (at the corner of Main Street and Buck Street) which is the entrance Convention guests should use.
The University of Maine Basketball teams have games in the arena the same day, therefore, the Southwest Entrance will only be accessible for UMaine Basketball ticket holders.
This map illustrates where our Convention will be held, the Rotunda Entrance that we should use, and where the casino garage parking is located in relation to those places.
Please set your destination as 500 Main Street (the casino garage) then cross the street to the Rotunda Entrance at the Convention Center.

Grace Church, Bath, seeks Director of Music Ministry
Grace Church, Bath, seeks a part-time Director of Music Ministry (DMM), to provide choral, vocal, and instrumental music (organ and/or piano) for worship, sacramental occasions, parish events, and concerts, and to assist the Rector in liturgical planning, education, and execution.
They seek a someone whose skill, enthusiasm, and collaborative spirit will support and help develop the musical aspect of their worship and life together as a faith community.

Marking the end of an era
Beginning today, October 20, the era of the fax has ended at the Diocese of Maine office. Technology updates and cost-savings measures have rendered the fax machine obsolete.

The Clergy Day scheduled for November 7 has been cancelled. We were unable to secure a program leader for that day, and the fall schedule has become crowded with events.
The winter Retreat at the Samoset and the Spring Clergy Day remain on the schedule.

You see them in church but have you ever wondered what else they do and why they became a Deacon? Would you like to know what's required to become a Deacon in the Diocese of Maine?
On Saturday, October 21, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. you are invited to gather at St. Patrick's in Brewer to answer those questions and learn more.
The format will be quite informal with lots of time to ask questions. There are no obligations associated with attending, this is strictly informational and hopefully really informative!

Trinity, Portland's 7th Annual Butterfield Series, October 25
Trinity, Portland, offers its seventh annual Butterfield Memorial Series on Wednesday, October 25, at 6:30 p.m. This year's speaker is Linda Orsi Robinson, a Maine nurse midwife who has served in Congo with Doctors without Borders and set up the first midwifery practice in American Samoa. Linda has been teaching in Malawi this last year and will return to Africa after this presentation.
Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and the program will begin at 6:30 with a reception and book signing to follow. This is the seventh year for the Butterfield Memorial Series providing compelling speakers free of charge for the community. (Goodwill donations are always gratefully received as they help Trinity to perpetuate this great series.) Click here for a flyer.
500th Anniversary of the Reformation celebration in Waterville
St. Mark's in Waterville is participating in an Ecumenical Gospel Celebration of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation on Sunday, October 29, at 11 a.m. at Lorimer Chapel on the Colby College campus. The service will feature visiting Gospel artists David Dupree and David Powell and a word from the Rev. Cheryl Townsend Gilkes. This event is co-sponsored by the Colby Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, Students Organized for Black and Latinx Unity, the Pugh Center, Waterville United Church of Christ, Pleasant Street Methodist, St. Mark's Episcopal and Winslow Congregational Church. All are welcome to participate.
Brahms Requiem at St. John's, Bangor, November 2 at 7 p.m.
Mark your calendar for the Brahms Requiem on All Souls' Day, Thursday, November 2 at 7 p.m. at St. John's in Bangor. With guest preacher, Rev. Renee U. Garrett (Minister of Christian Nurture at All Souls Church), the St. John's Choir will sing Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem in the context of a Requiem Eucharist for All Souls' Day. Donations will benefit the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter. Childcare is provided.
A German Requiem uses texts from the Bible instead of the traditional liturgical Latin text. Brahms himself said he would have gladly called the work "A Human Requiem." The overarching theme of the piece is comfort. Probably the most famous section is the beautiful fourth movement - in English translation "How lovely are thy dwellings."
Join us for this special service to remember all faithful departed. You are invited to submit names to be remembered during the service - either by mailing them to the parish office or emailing them to [email protected].
