Roses are forever

Much like Linus Van Pelt in the pumpkin patch, I continue to patiently wait for the release of the next Guns N’ Roses album, Chinese Democracy. Two days ago, I received some wonderful news: The record is scheduled to come out in June 2001, a mere nine years and eight months since the group's last release of original material.

The new GNR - which now includes no original members except Axl Rose - will debut the current lineup (and the collection of new songs) on New Year’s Eve at the intimate House of Blues in Las Vegas.

I’ve already managed to hear some of the unreleased stuff from the new album, particularly one track whose working title is Strip Bar but will more likely be called Just Another Sunday. It’s a fabulous song - sort of a combination of Houses of the Holy-era Zeppelin and 70s Stevie Wonder, except with Axl’s signature caterwauling. Another song (currently titled Livin’ Loud) is more akin to a metal version of Thin Lizzy.

Yeah, and the only known version of it is from earlier, from the West Arkeen tapes circa 1985-86. And I don't think I've ever heard it called "Strip Bar".

I found this article strange but also interesting, because it was not written by a random guy, but by Chuck Klosterman, one of the most prominent music writers.

On the other hand, it was the Napster era and maybe old GnR bootlegs were circulating as "new songs" even with fake titles - or even they were fake GnR songs altogether.

Yes, that is what I am remembering. I seem to remember the title Strip Bar actually. Not 100 % what Klosterman talks about here is genuine.
