Penn Medicine was named Healthcare’s Most Wired for the sixth straight year. The designation is meant to recognize hospitals and health systems for their work in using healthcare technology effectively to improve care for patients.
“Being named a ‘Most Wired’ organization for the sixth year in a row signifies Penn Medicine’s ongoing investment in implementing leading technology to advance the care we provide to our patients,” Michael Restuccia, senior vice president and chief information officer at Penn Medicine, said to Penn Medicine News.
According to Penn Almanac, C. William Hanson III, vice president and chief medical information officer at Penn Medicine, accepted the award at the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives CIO Forum in San Diego.
This was the first year that CHIME issued the award. The forum decided to select recipients based on the organizations' ability to close technology gaps in addition to the health systems' technology adoption, as the award had been based on in the past.
Restuccia said in Penn Medicine News that Penn Medicine significantly improved its technological capacity through patient engagement and the exchange of patient data with external partners since winning the award last year.
According to Penn Medicine News, the medical center’s next steps in advancing healthcare information technology include simplifying how patients engage in their care, and transforming the electronic health record.
