- Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2013For anyone of INTERMEDIATE-ADVANCED Level that is serious and interested in getting into the Blues, this book is for you. Kenn Chipkin covers a lot of ground on here for your buck.
I have bought several books on amazon like TEXAS BLUES GUITAR from MIT, BLUES RHYTHM GUITAR by MIT and THE BLUES GUITAR HANDBOOK by ADAM ST JAMES, but let me tell you...Even though these books are nicely illustrated and come with a CD, there's NOTHING like watching an instructional on DVD and seeing what you are reading.
So far, this is THE VERY VERY BEST book and DVD that I have found for the BLUES and I recommend it for the seasoned BLUES player or the technical students that like me, that are Guitar Shredders(Alternate Pickers) and it comes a time where you feel the need to slow down. This IS the book to start. Don't look anywhere else and spend your money. Start here FIRST!!
I am a self taught electric guitar player but I can reckon a good teacher on video on the spot. Kenn has down packed the TEXAS BLUES style to the T. So if you are interested in SRV and JOHNNY WINTER, this is the way to go.
There are over 3 hours of material to keep everyone busy for quite a while. Honestly, I wish there was a second volume or one day a second volume is released.
I completely agree with the reviewer below me. Today you get charged $45 dollars for a lesson where in here you get a lot more for the price of this book.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2017If you want to learn the blues, grab this, you will not regret it. I will say that is not for the faint of heart. It's definitely a book your take your time on. People have a problem of rushing through these books, just because they want to be a good guitarist. If you want to be a good guitarist, take your time
- Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2014Best guitar lesson book I've ever read (and I have literally read hundreds over the last 17 years of playing seriously). You really feel like he is giving you real insight and secrets used by the pros, but it is helpful if you have some familiarity with the pentatonic scales to start. Very thorough and challenging book for beginner and advanced. Excellent.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2024I bought this because it said it has audio/video content to accompany the lessons. It does, BUT, in order to use them you must install an app. The audio samples are in many instances (most) grouped as one recording. In order to find and work with the example you want, you must scroll forward and backwards through the entire audio clip to find the starting point. What the book, videos and audios showed me is the author is a very good guitarist and not a very good designer of instructional material. Naturally, this is my opinion after working with the material. Your experience could be different or better.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2014Very good blues guitar book/dvd. This book is really aimed at the advanced beginner to pro. If your just starting out, wait until you know more than just open chords. At some point and time you should have this book/dvd in your arsenal of learning to play the blues.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2014The tab is well written. Chipkin plays with the right vibe. This is worth many hours with a good teacher. Great DVD as well.
This guy is for real. Highly recommended from beginners to high intermediate. However, even some pros could steal a lick or two in the most advanced material.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 15, 2017Good book
- Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2018I think Kenny does a great job. The book and dvd are loaded with useful examples. One of the best book dvd combos I have ever bought.I strongly recommend this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Ce n'est pas la bible, mais presque ... Tout y est, très bien expliqué. Valable pour tous les niveaux. Idem pour le deuxième volume Real Blues Rock Guitar qui est encore mieux.
A conseiller.
