The 4th Quarter Begins: Thank You!

Good evening,

To say the least, what a last 365 days we've experienced together!  It was one year ago this weekend that we sent our students home for what we thought would be just a couple of weeks.  One year later, we're so happy to be able to come full circle and have the option for our students to stay in-person as we continue to endure this pandemic.

Last Thursday, we thanked our teachers and support staff for all they've done to help our students make it to where we are.  We continue to strive for our H3 Culture of "Help Others, Help Your School, and Help Yourself."

Today, we want to extend that THANK YOU to our families.  Thank you for all of your support and all of your work with us to Help Our Students and Help Our School!  We're looking forward to a great 4th quarter!

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Shane Hartley

What's New

STATE TESTING INFORMATION FROM OUR COUNSELING DEPARTMENT!
Our State Testing season begins one week after Spring Break, and it will be here before we know it!  Please read over this short piece of information from our counseling department!

TECHNOLOGY/CHROMEBOOKS FOR TESTING
This coming Friday, March 19th, we are having a "Tech Check" for all of our students as we prepare for our State testing.  Please be sure to help your student remember to bring his/her/their Chromebook and charger this Friday so we can see what fixes may need to be made BEFORE WE LEAVE FOR SPRING BREAK.

When State testing begins (the week of April 12th), we will be reminding families and students to bring their Chromebooks fully charged each day.  We will have very few spares available, and they will be reserved for students who experience technological issues.

STREAMING MUSIC CONCERTS
We were excited to announce that we will be streaming virtual music concerns later this month (March 24th and March 25th).  For the press release, please click here.

Additionally, our music department has put together a flyer with more information.  Please click here for access to that additional information.

A NOTE FOR SCHOOLOGY GRADE REPORTS FOR RETURNING STUDENTS
We want to make sure that students and families are aware of how Schoology "calculates" course grades.  Students who were 100% virtual in the first semester will have a Schoology grade that will show a "Course Grade." Please know that we don't use that as we enter in grades.  Instead, we only use the Quarter Grades.

ATTENTION JUNIOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS/CAREGIVERS: IMMUNIZATIONS NEEDED FOR 12TH GRADE
All students entering the 12th grade are required to get certain vaccinations, per the Ohio Department of Health. Here is a link to more information.

REMINDERS FOR MASKS
Parents/caregivers: Please help us by reminding your student to continue to wear masks at school AND to properly keep them on throughout the day.  For more details, please click here for a message from our Superintendent, Mr. Phillips.

STUDENT FEES
In the past, we have often been able to use events like Homecoming and Prom to help parents/guardians remember to pay student fees.  With no Prom or Homecoming over the last year, however, unfortunately many student fees have gone unpaid.  Please consider this a friendly reminder to check and pay for your child's student fees.  Thank you for your help!  Here is a link to the PaySchools website, and please feel free to reach out to the front office (513-891-0010) for any help or questions.  We greatly appreciate it!

In Case You Missed It

TERRACE METRICS SURVEY
Last year, in partnership with Terrace Metrics, Deer Park City Schools provided an innovative assessment service to students and families. This assessment is designed to examine the social/emotional strengths and needs of participating students in grades 3-12.  The survey has been administered to over 30,000 students across multiple school districts. This consent form will describe the purpose of the service.  You can also view the following video as well:

https://www.terracemetrics.org/consent-form/

For more details, including an "opt out" form, please see this letter.  This week, we will issue the survey starting with in-person learners (only) for students in high school will take the test each of the next following Mondays depending on their 1st bell teacher assignments.  As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions.

WILL THERE BE A PROM?  WHAT WILL IT LOOK LIKE?
Many students and parents have recently been asking this question.  As you may know, Governor Mike DeWine made some very general statements last week about events and gatherings, and he has stated that more guidance will be coming this week.  While we don't know what our annual Prom can look like, we also know that we want to plan something, to be determined, based on our Governor's guidelines in a way that still honors this tradition.  We will release information as time continues as quickly as and thoroughly as we can.

ATTENDANCE REMINDERS:
Students who are not on quarantine will still need to be called in as absent.  Please help us keep track of attendance and any possible contact tracing with a quick call to our attendance line (513-891-0010).

TECH HELP?
Need some help with your students' Chromebook? If you have any tech issues, please email our Tech department at: techhelp@dpccsd.org

Some families may be having internet connectivity issues.  If so, here is a link to some possible troubleshooting tips!
