A Message from the Administrators
Hello DPHS Families! Happy Sunday!
We just completed a very productive week of Teaching and Learning at DPHS as we close in on Spring Break. It's hard to believe the month of March is flying by. Our students are working hard in our classrooms as we head into Spring Break. Mindy and I are very proud of our staff and students!
Student report cards were sent home last Friday and will give our parents and guardians a clear picture of how our students are performing academically in our classrooms daily. We have a short run of school days heading into the final days of the 2021-22 school year and our goal as a Professional Learning Community will be to focus and close out the year strong academically. That you can count on!
In the meantime, it's important to celebrate our students who have delivered excellence in the classroom academically as a result of their hard work, excellent attendance, and students who were also positive role models for behavior in the third quarter of this school year. All students who delivered on all three of those targets will be treated to a field trip to Castle Skateland that is coming up. Students who earned this recognition were provided detailed information last week to bring home.
Mindy and I wish everyone an enjoyable Sunday evening. We are looking forward to powering up for an exciting week.

Classroom Highlight
This week I want to highlight the Teaching and Learning taking place in Mr. Gergen's Project Management class at DPHS, which provides our students a real world of work experience in our Career Academies.
The Project Management 301 class provides our DPHS students the opportunity to acquire the internationally recognized Certified Associates in Project Management license. As a result of acquiring this certification students are able to work in the field of project management directly out of high school.
This class is only for seniors who have taken the prerequisite courses of Project Management 101 and 201. The entire focus of the course is helping the students to pass the exam.
Seniors work extremely hard throughout the semester to accomplish this goal. The coursework is intensive and they put forth great effort towards achieving their goal. Our partnership with the Project Management Institute provides us with subject matter experts that assist with course materials that help the students prepare. Project Management 301 is a unique opportunity that provides the students of Deer Park with a head start.
A special thank you to Mr. Gergen for teaching this unique real world learning curriculum at DPHS. It's all business in this classroom every day!
Student Exemplars
The 9th grade students took part in an incredible college and career experience this week. On Wednesday, March 9th, they visited Cincinnati State College. This great school is only about 20 minutes away and can provide an affordable post-high school education in many fields! Our students learned about the cost-benefits that Cincinnati State can offer and saw presentations in the areas of medicine (including nursing, EMT and paramedic training), paralegal, early childhood education, and business. We really appreciate the folks at Cincinnati State for hosting us!
The 9th graders then traveled to the Northern Kentucky Convention Center for the Junior Achievement Inspire to Hire Career fair. There, our students were able to participate in lots of hands-on activities, get exposed to future, high-paying jobs in the tri-state area, and directly ask questions to those working the fields. The career areas covered included advanced manufacturing, construction, supply chain and logistics, health and human services, and technology and business. And these fields were represented by the likes of TriHealth, P&G, Messer, Delta, Monti Incorporated, GE Aviation, Cintas, Amazon, FedEx and more! Our thanks to OKI and Junior Achievement for hosting this yearly event and we are looking forward to going back next year!
At the beginning of February, senior Miranda Johnston submitted a solo video performance of an original flag routine to Winter Guard International (WGI). WGI Sport of the Arts is the world’s premier organization producing indoor color guard, percussion, and winds competitions.
As a non-profit youth organization, WGI also serves as the governing body for the indoor color guard, percussion, and winds activities. It is called the Sport of the Arts because it brings music to life through performance in a competitive format. This format was chosen as there is no local regional or state level competition like with other sports and music adjudication.
The scores came out last week from the preliminary round and Miranda is tied for second in the nation behind only 1 other student. Miranda was one point from a perfect score. Her final submission is toward the end of this month. There are only 5 other performers from across the country that are moving on from the preliminary round. Great work Miranda, and good luck in the final round!
Summer Learning Opportunities
Though summer break is a great time to reset and recharge, we also want to let our families know about a few learning opportunities that we will be offering:
SUMMER SCHOOL (CREDIT RECOVERY)
Our Summer School program is intended for credit recovery for any high school students who did not pass a core class (ELA, Math, Science, or Social Studies) during the 2021-2022 school year.
Because we do not have final grades yet, you may not necessarily know if your student would qualify. While we hope to not have any students in this scenario, we also want to provide this opportunity to help our students stay on track to graduate!
The summer school program will have students placed on our Apex Online Learning platform, and students will work through topics that they have not yet mastered in order to earn a passing grade for the course. There is a small cost ($50) for each course, and our Summer School monitor will help guide students throughout the program. It is a 6 week program running from June 6th- July 18th (no school July 4th).

ACT BOOTCAMP
Each summer, we provide an opportunity for students to work with our teachers and an online platform to help prepare our students for success on the ACT. This summer, we will have two sessions (students would only participate in one session). Best of all, these sessions are FREE to students!

- Need some academic help? Morning Intervention is available all year for students to come in for extra help from teachers on Thursdays at 7:35am. Students also have a daily “extra help” bell during the day to meet with their teachers.
