Cornerstone University's Stance for Justice

News June 1, 2020

As a university, Cornerstone University stands with our African American brothers and sisters who have once again experienced the staggering reality of violence committed against one of their own. Words are inadequate to express our sense of sorrow and grief over the tragic loss of the life of George Floyd as well as the other injustices that have been committed against the Black community.

As followers of Christ, we place a high value on justice and decry racism as violence against God’s created order and against the very work of the cross. In obedience to His Word, we are committed to be characterized as a community that acts justly, loves mercy and walks humbly with our God (Micah 6:8).

We are thankful to be able to claim among our alumni many community leaders of color here in Grand Rapids. It is our joy as well to count as colleagues outstanding individuals of color who study and serve with distinction in our university community. We both grieve and stand with them without apology or reservation.
