Kevin Durant wanted Klay Thompson to get a technical foul vs. Grizzlies

OAKLAND – Klay Thompson does not get technical fouls often.

The super-chill shooting guard had only collected six techs in his career heading into Wednesday night’s 97-84 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. But when the Grizzlies kept grabbing Thompson during the game, he collected his seventh.

“I was hoping he did,” Kevin Durant said of Thompson’s technical. “Who was that, (Ben) McLemore maybe was just grabbing the ball as soon as he shot the ball. And the refs just looked at it. And didn’t call it. I knew at some point – like I said – with all the grabbing and holding and physical play, that they’d let some things go, but I’m sure that frustrated Klay.”

Thompson started the game scorch-the-earth hot. He finished the first half with 27 points on 10-for-12 from the field. But he scored two points in the second half, the same half he got called for the tech.

What did he say to earn his tech?

“Nothing I would want to repeat,” Thompson said after the game. “Gotta keep my cool. Learn from it, and not do it next game.”

The odds of Klay Thompson earning a tech two days in a row are…very low. But we’ll see.
