The #researchinstitutions and #universities in the #DanubeRegion have been working to develop new #technologicalmodels that should be promoted within the relevant companies. This can be possible with a close collaboration between universities and industry in the Region to increase the number of the concrete Technology Offers, Technology Requests and Expression of Interest in the field of #innovation and #technologytransfer. This collaboration increases the participation of the Danube actors in EU innovation and technology transfer financed projects and enables more attractive business environment and economic opportunities in and beyond the Danube Region. Danube Transfer Centres Network, an initiative of the State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg, was established to support the #competitiveness of enterprises in the Danube Region with the objective of installing “Danube Transfer Centres (DTCs)”, organised as one-stop-shops to support SMEs in regard to the Innovation & Technology transfer. #Floods, #drought, #wildfires and low-flow events, as well as #waterscarcity situations and #extremestorms, are likely to become more intense, longer and more frequent for the next period due to #climatechange. As a solution to environmental risks, the Disaster Management Working Group was established in 2019 to concentrate on emergency response and preparedness elements of managing environmental risks which are in line with the goal of #EUSDR Priority Area 5 - #EnvironmentalRisks. Extending the cooperation and joint efforts of the countries in the #DanubeRegion presents an opportunity for reaching a common understanding and for developing standards regarding the management of environmental risks. Developing recommendations for the involvement of #civilprotection organisations and #fireandrescueservices involved in #disastermanagement would encourage standardised response activities. Senior Expert Advisor, Service for Transnational and Interregional Cooperation and Macro - Regional Strategies
In addition to today's day when we celebrate the National day of emergency medical services in the Republic of Croatia, I am sharing the good practice of cross-border cooperation between Austria and the Czech Republic in the field of emergency medical assistance. On 24 and 25 April our 26th Steering Group Meeting #PriorityArea10 'Institutional Capacity' of the EU Danube Strategy in Krems was organized. We spent 2 interesting days discussing the future of Cohesion Policy. A special highlight was our study visit at the cross-border healthcare facility #MEDGmünd. This was a great opportunity to get inspired for our next steps in our Task Force for Cross-border (Emergency) Healthcare!

The ability of #migratoryfish species, including #sturgeons, to reproduce is limited to rivers that are free from obstacles and boundaries. This has implications for all countries along the Danube River. Consequently, #conservationefforts can only be successful if implemented on a larger regional scale. Additionally, it is crucial for the countries and operators responsible for the Iron Gates in Romania/Serbia and Gabčíkovo Water Structure/Dunakiliti in Slovakia/Hungary to collaborate closely to develop the most viable solution for #fishpassages. The #DanubeRegionStrategy (EUSDR) puts a strong emphasis on the protection of #waterresources also targeting the measures to enable fish migration in the Danube River Basin. Through the #danubestratgeyflagship process on migratory fish, Priority Area 4 (PA 4) - #Waterquality highlights the importance of the link between water quality-related pressures and its impact on #aquaticecosystems. In 2021, PA 4 prepared the brochure “Promoting Measures to Enable #FishMigration in the Danube River Basin”. In 2022, PA 4 organised a fish migration working meeting, which provided the platform for discussions about the behaviour of #migratoryfish species and technical solutions of fish pass designs e.g. the Iron Gates and Gabčíkovo Water Structure. Furthermore, the fish migration restoration document was completed by PA 4, incorporating the recommendations made during the meeting. This comprehensive document encompasses a wealth of pertinent information regarding the restoration of migratory fish, including methodologies, studies on fish behavior, and an overview of #fishpopulations in the Middle and Upper Danube. #danubestrategyflagship: Bringing the Danube Region into Classrooms: Promoting Cooperation of Schools and Teachers Schools across the Danube Region face challenges in ensuring that #youngpeople are provided with essential #knowledge, #skills and #competencies. Through school cooperation projects, teachers and students in the #DanubeRegion can collaborate, learn from each other, and strengthen their #digitalcompetencies as well as language and #interculturalskills. More than 450 teachers participated in Danube Region #eTwinning conferences and developed more than 120 projects and many spin-off cooperation (e.g. #Erasmusplus projects). The #waterway along the Romanian-Bulgarian common sector of the Danube has a linear #transport structure. However, if there is a single bottleneck in this section with inadequate depth, it restricts the utilisation of all transport routes. To ensure reliable services and cost-effective business in the #navigationindustry, it is crucial to have a specific and harmonised quality of #waterwayinfrastructure throughout the entire #waterwaycorridor. 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗯𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗠𝗔𝗥) - a strategic project addressing such challenges in the inland waterways has been recently approved and will be implemented within the Interreg VI-A Romania-Bulgaria Programme. The project aims to support two of the goals outlined in the EUSDR's Priority Area 1a - #WaterwaysMobility. These goals include addressing #navigability challenges by considering the unique features of each section of the Danube and its #navigabletributaries, as well as establishing efficient management of #waterwayinfrastructure. Additionally, the project aims to boost cargo transportation on the river by 20% by 2020, in comparison to the levels recorded in 2010. The project will involve enhancing, establishing, and implementing an integrated marking system that will be accessible to both Romania and Bulgaria. The #waterwayadministrations in both countries will provide technical assistance for the collaborative #markinginitiative, following International Agreements and Regulations. The plans for marking, installing, testing, and monitoring are designed to enhance efficiency and guarantee the long-term viability of #fairwayrehabilitation. The #innovativetechnology proposed for the development of the #markingsystem will play a crucial role in enhancing #navigationsafety and improving the overall #navigability of the Danube. This will involve a network of interconnected coastal and floating signals that will provide essential information about the #navigationconditions. #danubestrategyflagship - The introduction of innovative public transport services and solutions to link peripheral regions to the main urban transport nodes and TEN-T hubs will reduce individual mobility and guarantee positive impacts in terms of reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and will positively impact on the socio-economic development of the EUSDR Regions involved (Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia)
Stakeholders and passengers board the SUSTANCE train! The new direct passenger service offers a valid alternative to daily tourists and commuters travelling across Italy, Slovenia and Croatia and will contribute to the reduction of emission caused by the predominant use of cars along this route.
