Amity Elementary

What's New?

From the Desk of Mr. Drouhard

Amity Families,

While our children love to play in the snow, I’m happy to see it melt from our playground. It's a sign of warmer days which means more days outside for recess! Our students really enjoy the freedom and play that recess brings. It also allows them to get energy out prior to getting back to academics in the afternoon!

Take Care,
Josh

Virtual Spotlight

On Friday, the Virtual Learning Academy rocketed through space with the Cincinnati Observatory! This program tackled the life cycles, and types of stars and galaxies as well as the distances to these interstellar objects. Students discovered how much we have learned from telescopes and where their place is in the universe. We learned how big the planets in our solar system are and facts about each planet. We designed our own planets and flew through space to see how big the universe is!

The hours for public viewing are Monday-Friday 8:00am-8:00pm and Saturday-Sunday 10:00am-4:00pm. Don't miss out on an opportunity to see your child's wonderful artwork!

Kids Heart Challenge

Our Kids Heart Challenge is back! We will be kicking off our Kids Heart Challenge event beginning Monday, March 1 until Friday March 26th! The Kids Heart Challenge is an educational resource that is a part of the American Heart Association. During our event, all students in grades 1-6 will learn about ways to keep their hearts, mind and bodies healthy through fun engaging heart activities paired with our jump rope unit. Students will have the opportunity to raise money for kids with heart complications and earn fun prizes while doing so! Last year, our K-3rd graders raised over $3,200 for the American Heart Association! You can get started by registering your child at heart.org/KHC.   Please reach out to Mrs. Fowler if you have any questions.

Kindergarten and 1st Grade PM Dismissal

Please refrain from attempting to turn left into the east parking lot during pickup of Kindergarten and First Grade car riders. It creates an unsafe situation for our students walking on Linden Ave. We also have received complaints from our neighbors about the intersection of Linden and Beech being blocked as traffic backs up, along with driveways being blocked on Beech Ave. Thank you for your help in making this change.

Champions Is Open During Spring Break

Spring break doesn’t have to mean a break from the family routines you’ve worked hard to reclaim. This year, we’re making the most of out-of-school time by helping elementary schoolers (up to 12 years old) reconnect with friends and make up for lost learning time. Join us for spring break held March 29th-April 2nd at Amity Elementary, located in the cafeteria! Cost is $40 a day and there will be a one-time enrollment fee of $50 or $75 for multi-family! Are you a teacher, military or a multi-family? Ask us about our discounts! We do accept subsidy! Want more information please call us today and speak with our site director Amber Meece!

Attendance

Please remember to call our attendance line (513-891-2414) or email Betty Jung (jung.b@dpccsd.org), our attendance secretary, if your student is going to be out.

This is especially important with the number of people that are either required to quarantine by the health department, or quarantining on their own accord.    We need to be aware of these situations outside of school so that we can appropriately mark the attendance and provide guidance from the district if necessary.   Thanks for all your help!

Amity Cat News

The Amity Cat News is up and running. Our student led morning announcement is scheduled to post every morning at 7:45 so your student can stay connected with what is going on whether they are at school or at home. The link to the youtube channel is below
