What did you do for a workout today?

Exactly, he likes the way things are; his mom let's him lay around and sleep and eat anything he wants. Who knows, maybe when he's older he'll have some motivation to lose weight but really the longer you wait the harder it is IMO. The older you get the more your metabolism slows and the more difficult it is to lose weight. If I were her, I would definitely give it a try though. If he sneaks snacks and junk food, he's not getting them as often at least.

Yeah, I'd take him to a doctor to put the fear of God in him. One of the best ways she could probably do it is if she did it with him. Starting a lifestyle change to lose weight is much more likely to work out in the long run when done with someone else.

How cool to stumble on posts over three years old.
Lots of names I don't know--look like they have a lot of history.
This thread reminds me of what I did too much of today, eat--TV--dp .
I put the cat out and petted the dog.

I also ordered my teenage son to perform certain strenuous chores, that was kinda tiring. I had to actually get up and go to his room, he had the TV on too loud and couldn't hear me bellowing. I had to rest a while after that, and then it was time for my before-dinner nap.

Hey, it's Sunday.

lower body. situps, flutter kicks, leg curls, squats.....

Yup. She could just start off with little steps, like no more picking him up from school (unless the weather is really bad), and make him walk home. That would be really good for him I think, but then he'd probably just get a ride with a friend or something. Ideally, she should have never allowed him to get this large, and now that he's older it's going to be REALLY hard to break him of bad habits with diet and exercise. If she wanted him to lose weight, I'm sure she'd have a fight on her hands.

It's really hard to lose weight from exercise. Last week I was reading about how much of different exercizes it would take to lose a lb of fat (about 3500 calories burned), you would have to do a little over 10,000 situps. It would take almost a month of doing 1000 situps every other day to lose that one lb, and thats assuming that you had already cut back your diet to the maintanance amount of calories. Imagine trying to lose 100 lbs from exercise without significant dieting, it could easily take a decade.

Well true, when you're that big, but it's still better than nothing.

Absolutely!

I suspect that the chart I was looking at didn't account for the fact that after exercizing, your metabolism is higher for many hours, and thus you probably burn more calories throughout the day than that what is directly burned from the exercise.

I didn't work out tonight, or today...but I need to start again. Before we know it shorts and swimsuit season will be in full swing. I have a treadmill and I need to start using it again.

holy crap. for me to do 2 hours on an exercise bike, I'd have to get up at 3:30 a.m. No way in hell that's happening. I did a 2.5 mile walk on the treadmill in 26 minutes. I'm a lazy slug. Do just enough to keep myself in shape to pass HT/WT and the PT test.

i only have time to do two hours on the weekends. weekdays, i do 30 mins before work and 60 after on most days.

looking forward to warmer weather so i can get some walks in. after a winter of it, i'm a little tired of sitting on that bike, as you can probably imagine. have gotten a lot of reading done and caught up on some TV series that i like, though.

I have a TV w/ bluray player set up in front of the treadmill. been rewatching all the old orignal Star Trek episodes. I can't walk outside because of all the coyotes and stray dogs. The last time I tried it, I spent more time swinging a stick than I did walking. I used to walk with my M9 is a shoulder holster but one of the neighbors called the sherrif on me after I shot a couple of coyotes. apparently I was "some crazy guy shooting at houses"

We are starting to have a lot of problems with coyotes around here, but so far they will not come anywhere near a full grown adult or larger dog. Do they where you live?

irresponsible pet owners in my town let their angry territorial wolves run, too. i carry pepper spray and a knife. i'd only use the knife if i absolutely had to. it's bad enough that i can't even walk my own dog, because she might get eaten. she weighs like four pounds.

people need to be more responsible with their pets.

At times. several months ago they got one of my neighbor's german shepards and they started chasing my horses. We have been on several coyote hunts over the last couple of months. I've shot 6-7 of the bastards so far and hit one with my car.

They are so bad here that it is open season on them year round. Alabama used to pay a bounty for them. not sure if they do any more.

yeah, all those dumbass city folks bring their unwanted pets out to the country and dump them once they go out of style.

Damn, I had always heard coyotes would not go after a medium size or bigger dog.

It's mostly at night. when the population gets too big and food gets scarce, they get brave. I've had one stalk me on a couple of occasions when I've taken the trash can out to the end of the drive at night. We have a great pyrenees and he stays in a fence during the day and locked in the garage at night.

hence the hunts. slowly but surely we are thinning the population down.

Did 45 minutes of cardio. Plus 50 sit-ups.

I walked from the bedroom to the bathroom four times and back.
I had inner ear surgery last Wednesday ... (this was quite an accomplishment.)

I'm doing a modified version of Rippetoe's Starting Strength. Today is Day B, so I will be doing front squat, deadlifts, military press, and rope pulldowns (tricep).

Nothing.

Absolutely nothing.

She kicked me. And then snuggled. Wtf?
