APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • IBMJCEPlus became the default JCE security
provider in the service refresh 7 of the IBM SDK version 8.
This caused Portlet Container to break since the MessageDigest
implementations from IBMJCEPlus are not cloneable.

    ****************************************************************
With service refresh 7 for IBM SDK version 8, the IBMJCEPlus
became the default JCE security provider on some operating
systems. However, the MessageDigest algorithms within
IBMJCEPlus are not clonable (but are for IBMJCE). Per the
MessageDigest API, implementations are not required to
implement the Cloneable interface. Nevertheless, this SDK
    change caused an unexpected
    java.lang.CloneNotSupportedException within the Portlet
    Container, resulting in the java.lang.IllegalStateException
    described above.

Problem conclusion

  • The Portlet Container code has been updated to specifically
use the IBMJCE provider in order to avoid this error.

The fix for this APAR is targeted for WebSphere version
    9.0.5.12, and 8.5.5.22.
