Patricia Sanchez, a National Weather Service meteorologist, said the above-average rainfall is the result of a combination of factors, including tropical moisture from the Gulf of Mexico, moisture from remnants of tropical storms like Sergio last weekend, and now cold fronts as D-FW transitions into winter.

D-FW has even recorded more rain this month than a city known for its precipitation.

Through Oct. 16, Seattle has only recorded 1.09 inches of rain, according to the Weather Service. On average, Seattle gets about 4.6 inches of rain in October.

With more than a month left in meteorological fall and more rain in the forecast this weekend, 2018 could further cement itself as having the wettest fall on record.
