ANIMALS IN SCHOOL
4J School District has changed its policy on animals (other than Certified Service dogs) being in the school.  This includes:  canines, felines, rabbits, gerbils, guinea pigs and other animals. Animals can only be in the school for an “educational” purpose.

DID YOU MOVE OVER THE SUMMER?  DO YOU PLAN TO MOVE?
 
4J School District now requires two documents for proof of address anytime you move to a new residence.  If you move or have moved since last June, come in, fill out the change of information form, and provide your utility bill, phone bill, or other document that shows your new address. Pick up a verification form in the office. Please be sure that the information provided on the verification form is correct and return to Perla or Alex in the front office.

file in the school office.
Those who have special custody papers or restraining orders need to bring copies to the school office so we can be aware of any legal issues. The information will be kept confidential. Feel free to contact the principal or secretary if you have any questions.

VOLUNTEERING AT SCHOOL                   Required Policy!
 
There are many volunteer opportunities available at Buena Vista, and parents are encouraged to volunteer. You can inquire with the Buena Vista Parent Organization (BVPO), classroom teachers or front office staff for more information. Any person volunteering in our schools will need to undergo district-mandated background check once every 2 years. Click here to complete the background check online. http://bit.ly/Volunteer_BV
 
Background checks take 2 weeks to process, so if you plan on going on a field trip or be in a classroom, the background check MUST be approved prior to any classroom activity or field trip.

HOURS OF SCHOOL SUPERVISION

It is important for families to be aware of the hours of supervision at Buena Vista.  The school provides supervision only between the hours of 7:55 a.m. and 3:10 p.m., Mondays - Thursdays. On Fridays, the school provides supervision only between the hours of 7:55 a.m. and 1:55 p.m.  There is no playground supervision provided before or after school.
 
Before school, the only supervised area is the Cafeteria.  This is the only place children may wait before school.
 
Children need to be picked up immediately after school. We will be calling if your student has not been picked up by the time the 2nd bell rings (1:55 p.m. on Friday, or 3:10 p.m. the rest of the week).


HORAS DE SUPERVISIÓN DE LA ESCUELA

Es muy importante para las familias que tengan en mente las horas de supervisión en Buena Vista.  La escuela ofrece supervisión solamente entre las horas de 7:55 a.m. y 3:10 p.m., de lunes a jueves. Los viernes, la escuela ofrece supervisión solamente entre 7:55 a.m. y 1:55 p.m.  No hay supervisión disponible para el área de recreo antes y después de la escuela.

ATTENDANCE
                                                                                                           
Attendance is closely related to your child’s success in school.  Good attendance includes arriving to school in time to get to class before the bell rings.  If your child will be absent, we would like you to call the attendance line at 541-790-6525 prior to 8:30 a.m.  If your child is tardy, it is policy for the parent/guardian to walk the child in to the front office to get a tardy slip. We will be tracking attendance on a monthly basis and communicating with parents if a student is having a problem with tardiness or absences.

In order to ensure that the school has accurate information, you only need to call the Front Office or the Attendance Line when your child is absent.

ASISTENCIA
                                                                                                           
La asistencia está muy relacionada con el éxito de su estudiante en la escuela. Buena asistencia incluye el llegar a la escuela a tiempo para ir al salón antes de que suene la campana.  Si su estudiante va a estar ausente, nos gustaría que llamaran la línea de asistencia al 541-790-6525 antes de las 8:30 a.m.  Si su estudiante llega tarde, es la política de la escuela que el padre/madre pasen por la oficina para recibir un papel de llegada tarde. FRONT OFFICE SAFETY PROCEDURES
 
Procedures are in place for entering the building in the mornings.  We have a foyer created by a second set of double doors across from the office.  This gives us the ability to close off direct access to the halls by locking these doors.  These doors will be locked during the school day at 8:30 a.m.  Any one entering the school must come in through the front office and SIGN IN after that time. You will be issued a badge to wear.   These doors will be unlocked everyday just in time for student release. Please wait outside of an entrance before the bells ring so that classes are not disturbed.
 
Don’t forget to sign in and get your name badge!

PROCEDIMIENTOS DE SEGURIDAD EN LA OFICINA
 
Los procedimientos están en orden para entrar el edificio en la mañana.  Tenemos un aposento creado por un par de puertas dobles al frente de la oficina.  Esto nos da la habilidad de no permitir el acceso a los pasillos simplemente cerrando con llave las puertas.  Estas puertas estarán cerradas con llave durante el día escolar hasta las 8:30 a.m.  Cualquier persona que venga a la escuela debe hacerlo por la oficina y firmar en la computadora. Se les va a dar un distintivo después de firmar.   Las puertas estarán sin llave todos los días a tiempo para la salida de los estudiantes. Favor de esperar afuera de la entrada antes de que suene la campana para que las clases no se interrumpan!

TREATS IN THE CLASSROOM
 
Parents sometimes want to bring treats to their child’s classroom.  While this is very much appreciated, keep in mind that foods brought from home must be commercially prepared and wrapped. It is also acceptable to provide whole, washed fruit, such as oranges, bananas or apples. The NEW State Nutrition Policy, prevents treats such as: cakes, cookies, sugar drinks, and ice cream. So if you would like to bring food to the classroom non-sugar treats must be provided. Please check with your child’s teacher to make sure that you are aware of any food allergies in the classroom.
 
This restriction is necessary in order to protect our students with life-threatening food allergies and also to reduce the chances of inadvertently spreading illnesses such as Hepatitis A, Norwalk Virus, Salmonella, and E.coli.  Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
 
 
Los padres muchas veces quieren traer bocadillos para el salón de su estudiante.  Aunque nosotros se los agradecemos mucho, favor de tener en cuenta que las comidas que traigan de casa deben ser comercialmente preparados y empacados. También es aceptable el traer frutas enteras y lavadas como, naranjas, bananos o manzanas. La Nueva Política de Nutrición Estatal , previene bocadillos como: pasteles, galletas, bebidas con azúcar, y helados. Así que si quieren traer comida al salón, deben ser sin azúcar. Favor de contactar al/la maestro(a) de su estudiante para asegurarse de que no hayan estudiantes con alergias a comidas en el salón.
 
Esta restricción es necesaria para poder proteger a nuestros estudiantes con alergias que les amenazan la vida y también para reducir el propago de enfermedades como Hepatitis A, el Virus Norwalk, Salmonella, and E.coli. Se les agradece mucho su colaboración.
CELL PHONE & SMART WATCH USE BY STUDENTS DURING SCHOOL HOURS
 
Cell phones and smart watches are a great tool for students while walking to and from school, but become a distraction on campus.  Cell phones and smart watches are not to be used during the school day and will be taken away if they are used.  Please encourage your child to keep their cell phone on silent in their backpack, in the hallway, during the day. Please encourage your child to keep their smart watch on silence between 7:55 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

MEDICATION AT SCHOOL
 
  • All medication must come in the original prescription or over the counter container.
  • Parents must sign the state mandated form provided by the office.
  • Changes in dosage require that new forms filled out and provided to the office.
  • Children may not carry medication. 
This includes asthma inhalers, cough drops, eye drops, nose sprays, etc.
  • The prescription bottle is considered the doctors authorization.

SITE COUNCIL INFORMATION
 
The first site council of the year will be Wednesday, October 3rd at 4:00 p.m. The committee is made up of parents, certified staff, classified staff and administrative staff.  This is a council that meets to discuss the needs of the school in a variety of areas, such as:
(a) The development of plans to improve the professional growth of the school's staff;
(b) The improvement of the school's instructional program;
(c) The development and coordination of plans for the implementation of programs under Oregon's Education Act for the 21st Century at the school; and
(d) The administration of grants-in-aid for the professional development of teachers and classified district employees.

INFORMACIÓN DE LA JUNTA DEL CONCILIO ESCOLAR

TRAFFIC FLOW PROCEDURES
 
Procedures For Traffic Safety/Parking to help insure student safety!
                              
The lane closest to the school before the crosswalk and the lane closest to the fence are pause parking and you must stay in your car if you are in these lanes. The middle lane is for drive through and there is no pausing in the middle lane. To ensure safe student crossing from school to the lane by the fence, use the painted crosswalk that cars must yield for students to cross.  Students should enter their parent’s cars using only the car door that is away from drive-through traffic.
 
Drivers will pull forward as far as they can and continue to pull forward when a driver pulls out. Students can move from their area as soon as they see their pick-up person's car. Students enter car doors that open on the opposite side of the car from the drive-through lane. 
 
If students travel together (carpool or siblings), the older sibling or carpool student may go to the youngest sibling's or carpooler's waiting area, and wait there for the pick-up person.    

Students who walk home, go to nearby day care places and those who meet their pick up person on a nearby street leave directly after school and do not wait at the designated area.
 
Thank you for following these procedures for traffic safety, in order to insure our student’s safety. There will be no pause parking in the bus drop off and pick up zone. This area is at the southwest and west end of the parking lot. Please do not park too far back on the fence side pause parking, this makes it difficult for the bus to maneuver the turn.
 
Parents who wish to walk their children into the school need to find a parking spot in the parking lot or on Norwood Street.

Please DO NOT block the driveways of our neighbors off of Queens Way.

PROCEDIMIENTOS DE FLUJO DE TRÁFICO
 
Procedimientos del tráfico/estacionamiento para la seguridad de los estudiantes!
                              
La línea más cerca a la escuela antes del paso de paetones y la línea más cercana a la cerca son de  estacionamiento pausado y usted se debe mantener en su automóvil si está en éstas líneas. La línea del medio es para seguir manejando y no hay estacionamiento pausado en la línea del medio. Para asegurar que los estudiantes crucen seguramente de la escuela hasta la línea por la cerca , usen el cruce de peatones pintado en la calle donde los automóviles deben de ceder el paso a los estudiantes para cruzar.  Los estudiantes deben usar solamente la puerta del automóvil lejos del tráfico. 
 
Los choferes van a seguir hacia delante para continuar hacia delante a como los automóviles van saliendo.
Los estudiantes se pueden mover de sus áreas una vez que vean el automóvil de quien los recoge. Los estudiantes entran por la puerta que abre al lado opuesto de la línea del medio.
 
Si los estudiantes viajan juntos (compartiendo o con hermanos), el hermano mayor o el estudiante que comparte puede ir al área donde están esperando para ser recogidos.

Los estudiantes que caminan a casa, van a una guardería cercana y que van a una calle cercana para ser recogidos no deben esperar en una área designada.
 
Muchas gracias por seguir éstos procedimientos de seguridad vial, para poder asegurar la seguridad de los estudiantes. No hay estacionamiento pausado en la zona de autobuses. Esta área está al final de la parte suroeste y oeste del estacionamiento. Por favor no estacione muy atrás por la cerca ya que esto dificulta el paso de los autobuses.
  
Padres que desean caminar a sus estudiantes a la escuela necesitan estacionar un espacio en el estacionamiento o en la calle Norwood.

Favor NO bloquear las entradas de las casas en Queens Way.
