Professional runner in Maine gets chased by two black bears while training

A professional runner from Kenya got an incredible scare after being charged by two bears while training in Maine. Moninda Marube was running in the woods when two large black bears charged him.

Marube didn’t quite know how to handle the bears in front of him. Knowing they could climb he didn’t want to get in a tree, and they charged as soon as he turned his back — so he ran. Finding refuge inside a screen porch, Marube waited and hoped the bears didn’t realize they could easily tear through the screen. Luckily they didn’t, and left after sniffing around for a while.

Maine is fast proving it’s the scariest state in America for runners. In June a jogger was chased by a rabid raccoon in the state and was forced to drown it with her bare hands. Now there are bears to worry about too. You’re scary, Maine.

Thankfully Marube was OK and able to tell us his story. He also helped shed some light from first-hand experience on what’s the scariest animal to be chased by.

"I don't fear lion," he said. "I don't fear anything else. But a bear is scary."

Agreed. Bears are scary.
