Volunteers Sought for Sound Transit Community Oversight Panel

Those passionate about transit and that want to help shape the future of public transportation in the Puget Sound region are invited to join the recently revamped and renamed independent Community Oversight Panel (COP), formerly known as the Citizen Oversight Panel. There are currently eight openings on the 15-member panel comprised of volunteers from King, Pierce and Snohomish Counties. The COP was founded in 1997 with a mission to ensure that Sound Transit succeeds in meeting its commitments to the public by independently monitoring the agency’s performance.

Members are tasked with being knowledgeable about the agency’s actions and plans, reviewing programs, asking hard questions and reporting findings back to the Sound Transit Board of Directors. COP members serve 3-year terms and come from a variety of backgrounds throughout the areas served by ST express bus, commuter rail and light rail services. Members must live or work in the Sound Transit District and commit to attending one meeting a month either in person or virtually from 5:30 p.m. - 8:15 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month.

Esperance Park Art Unveiled

Esperance Park Art Unveiling

On Saturday, March 12th, the unveiling for a new piece of public art was held at Experience Park, located at 7830 222nd St. S.W. in unincorporated Edmonds. The sculpture was designed to take advantage of daily and seasonal changes in light intensity, character, and direction. Titled “Hope Grows Where Light is Given,” the artwork was created by internationally known architect, sculptor, and designer Tsovinar Muradyan. It began as a large piece of sandstone quarried on Valdes Island, B.C. Muradyan carved a downward-sloping tunnel completely through the sandstone and positioned it to capture natural sunlight and direct it to the work’s focal point, a small bronze seedling seemingly sprouting out of the rock.  It is a living work of art that affords visitors the opportunity to experience and be inspired in a host of ways as they interact with it under the full range of lighting and weather conditions.

Lynnwood Cops for Inclusion Event – Kids with Diverse Abilities

Saturday, April 23rd from 11am-4pm, the Lynnwood Police Dept. is hosting a free event designed exclusively for families with children on the Autism Spectrum.  People and families with ASD utilize 911 and emergency services just like anyone else, and the goal is to make them more familiar and feel safer around police officers before there is an emergency.  This event will allow for interactions within a sensory-inclusive environment, while having fun and getting to know each other.

How it works: there will be seven different stations for your families to rotate through.  Inside, you’ll learn about pedestrian safety, fingerprinting, police robots, and what’s on a police vest.  Outside, you’ll get to meet K9 Chase (from a distance), see what’s inside patrol vehicles, and watch a drone in action.  You will register for an hour block of time, and your time at each station will be approximately 10 minutes.  Children will be given a goody bag at the start of the event and collect items at each station to take home at the end of the day. Fresh fruit and other healthy snacks will be provided.

Some children are sensitive to loud noises and flashing lights, so two time slots are designated during which there will be no operation of any lights, sirens, or equipment.  Those blocks are indicated on the registration form. A SNO911 dispatcher with two children on the Autism Spectrum will be providing information and helping interested families sign-up for Smart911. A Lynnwood patrol officer will be available to answer questions about responding to your calls.

Licensed behavior health professionals are helping create an environment in which families feels safe and welcome.  There is even a “quiet room” inside the church facility for those needing to step away from the action.  Remember, you can skip any station that doesn’t work for your family!

Free COVID-19 Testing Kits

  • Order 4 free tests per residential household via the U.S. Postal Service.
  • Tests may be in limited supply, but are available to purchase at pharmacies, drug stores and some big box stores.
