Year 11 UNO Championships

After the success of the Year 12 UNO Tournament, it was great to see the Year 11's have their turn! Competition was FIERCE! Jaemin beat out Merlin in the semi-finals to face Mr Mearns in the final! It was a quick game that culminated in Mr Mearns taking out the title of Year 11 UNO Champion!

Mr Mearns then faced the Year 12 Champ, Tom and was also victorious! He clearly missed his calling when he chose to be a Teacher rather than a professional UNO player!

Toowoomba here we come!

This weekend saw a strong re-opening of competitions, and a fiery re-emergence for Ferny Grove!

Well done to the students competing this weekend, you have done an amazing job! Top 10 overalls, Aimee, Maddy, Emily and Christina at Somerville, with Emily in the top 5 and a win for the AM5 and Christina in 9th overall making it to the jump off in the AM5 in strong competition. All girls received further qualifiers for State Champs. We could not be prouder!

Ferny Grove will be well represented across Dressage Show Jumping and Combined Training with our team qualifying in multiple events for IQ State Championships in October!

Everyone please show your appreciation for the incredible effort and dedication these girls and their marvellous parents have put into this sport. I must say, we look smashing in our new uniform. Ferny Grove Represent!

Year 7 German Immersion

The Year 7 German Immersion class have been planting their seeds and seedlings. The students really enjoyed this activity. Their design brief is to learn about sustainable food production. It is their responsibility to tend to their garden beds and research and use sustainable methods for growing their plants.

Year 7 Maths/Science LEAF Class Diaoramas

In the Year 7 Maths/Science LEAF Class, students were asked to build a model as a representation of an idea, an object or even a process or a system. A model is used to represent, describe and explain phenomena that cannot be experienced directly or as effectively as desired. Their task was to utilise their knowledge of ratio and scale to construct an accurate model representation of something that fit in with a set criteria.

Senior Boys Volleyball Team

The Ferny Senior Boys Volleyball Team has finished a bronze medal at the Queensland Schools Cup Volleyball on the Gold Coast last weekend. A fantastic performance from all the boys over the three days, winning all but two games.

A massive thanks to the parents for organising the boys over the weekend, including feeding and organising accomodation. Thanks also to Fit To Fight Nutrition for sponsoring a bus for all the boys travel. A fantastic three days and a great reward for all the boys efforts in preparing and playing. Go Ferny!

Undertow Production

The Year 7, 8 and 9 Drama students viewed Undertow by Shock Therapy Productions on Wednesday August 5. It was wonderful to have Emma McGlade our Guidance Officer and Sam Green and Ebony Rea, our Chaplians view the show as well.

"The show was really powerful. I like how there was a mix between really humorous moments and scenes which were deeply moving and at times sad. I was really impressed with how the actors could portray so many different characters and change their voice." - Year 8 Student

Brisbane Bus Lines Timetable Restructure

The School Council would like to thank Ian Marshall, Director of Brisbane Bus Lines for his ongoing co-ordination with the council members to restructure the bus timetables. This has resulted in all of our buses now arriving at school with plenty of time for the students to prepare for the day.

Every Parent/Guardian for whom Brisbane Bus Lines have a current e-mail address for have received notification of this change and over the coming days students will also be given flyers about the change as they board the buses.

BYO Devices - Network change to BYOxLink and Intune

Published by Gavin Walters

Dear parents and carers,

On 27 August, the school is implementing a new Bring Your Own device technical service called BYOxLink.

We ask that students enrol their BYO device on the new service prior to 27 August.  This must be done at home, or on a mobile hotspot and should take around 15 minutes.  This will ensure the student device does not lose it's connection on 27 August.

Connecting BYO Devices (Link to school web page)

The link above includes Intune installation guides and videos for Windows, iOS and Macintosh devices. After 27 August, students will be able to enrol at school using the guest Wi-Fi service, EQGUEST.

We recommended that the device is enrolled the BYO device at home by Sunday 23 August.  Students who have issues joining, should bring their device to IT.  Parents may contact laptops@fernygroveshs.eq.edu.au or phone the IT Department on 07 3550 5731 or 07 3550 5727 if they have any questions.

BYOxLink service allows students to securely access the IT network, school email and mobile learning applications on their own devices. It provides seamless access to digital learning resources between school and home.

The department has selected Microsoft Intune as its mobile device management (MDM) tool. One-to-one devices in schools that use BYOxLink need to enrol into the Microsoft Intune Company Portal (Intune). Intune allows the department to distribute a wireless network profile and curriculum related applications to student's BYO devices.

School staff can only access school information through Intune and cannot:

  • see personal information
  • monitor what happens on the device
  • track or locate the device
  • see information on installed personal applications (other than school applications)
  • uninstall applications, including personal ones.

Student Engagement - Attending Every Day

Student engagement is one of the key focus areas this year and it is essential students attend every day.

Please view the video below and share this video with your family on attending every day.

Attendance processes: Please note that the school is targetting ongoing lateness so parents will receive a letter each term after week 5 and week 9, listing their student's  lateness.  These letters are to firstly check if our records are correct, and secondly to seek you support in ensuring that the ongoing lateness is addressed.
