CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI head volleyball coach Bobbi Petersen has announced the hiring of Jason Allen as the programs assistant coach.

"We are extremely excited to welcome Jason and his beautiful family to UNI," said head coach Bobbi Petersen. "Jason brings a great depth of experience in a number of different areas. When going through this process there were so many wonderful things said about Jason, but one that really stood out to me was that he is a genuinely good person that will not be outworked, which I think fits extremely well with our program's values.  His communication and organizational abilities, as well as his energy and competitive mentality, will also be tremendous assets to our program.  We are thrilled to bring Jason, Jennifer, Sophia, and Abigail to the Cedar Valley."

"I would like to thank Bobbi and (Senior Associate Athletics Director) Christina (Roybal) for giving me this incredible opportunity," said Allen. "Bobbi and the staff have established a nationally relevant and competitive program, and I am excited to help build upon that tradition.  My wife Jennifer and I are incredibly excited for this new chapter, and we are looking forward to bringing our family back to the great state of Iowa."

Allen spent the last five years at the University of Houston where he served as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. The Cougars went 53-71 with Allen on staff finishing the 2018 season with a 17-16 mark. Under his guidance, three student-athletes earned All-Conference recognition.

Prior to joining the Cougars, Allen spent the 2013 season at Marquette where he served as the defensive coordinator, working with the middle blockers and the back-row defensive alignment. He also acted as the video coordinator. Allen helped the Golden Eagles to a 26-6 overall record and 15-1 mark in the BIG EAST Conference. That season Marquette advanced to the NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship Second Round and were ranked as high as No. 11.

Before Marquette, Allen spent five seasons as an assistant coach at Iowa from 2008-12. He coached the Hawkeyes' defense and in 2010 served as the recruiting coordinator. Allen's efforts in his first two seasons at Iowa paid immediate dividends as the Hawkeyes posted the most overall and conference victories in nearly a decade.

Allen served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Sam Houston State University from 2004-07. He helped lead the Bearcats to a second-place finish in the Southland Conference in 2005 and coached a total of eight student-athletes to All-SLC honors.

Prior to Sam Houston, Allen served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at North Dakota State from 2002-04. North Dakota State won a share of the North Central Conference title in 2003 and qualified for the NCAA Division II National Tournament twice, including a "Sweet 16" appearance in 2003. Allen helped lead four student-athletes to All-Region honors and two to All-America honors in 2003.

Allen is a graduate of Oklahoma Baptist (2000). Jason and his wife, Jennifer, have two daughters Sophia and Abigail.
