The Utah Jazz has a long-standing tradition of not allowing its players to wear headbands. In fact, the unwritten rule can be traced back to the eras of coaches Frank Layden and Jerry Sloan.

However, it seems that there will be a bit of change next season, as Jazz head coach Quin Snyder said he will allow veteran point guard Mike Conley to continue wearing one, per Eric Woodyard of Deseret News.

“He can wear it. I might wear one, too.”

“We ran the analytics and found he shoots better with a headband. So, I have encouraged him to wear one. … Joe Ingles also thinks he shot better with one last year, so he asked me if he could wear one … if that’s the case I might wear one too!

All jokes aside, Snyder said that the team's goals will never change even if Conley wears a headgear or not.

“Mike’s and our team’s focus are on being unselfish and playing defense that will be the case whether he or any of our players wear headbands or any of our five different uniforms or whether Donovan wears tights. That’s what’s important to us,” he pointed.

The Jazz acquired Conley in a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies this offseason, turning the franchise into a legitimate title contender. If Utah can play consistently on both ends of the floor with Mike leading the way, they the decision to bend the unwritten rule will all be worth it.
