Dear Ridgefield Families,

\r\n

Next week is the last week of school before Winter Break.  I hope you take time to relax with your family and cherish the time with them this holiday season.  If you recall, last week, I spoke with you about the power of “anticipation.”  This week I am eagerly anticipating the FDA’s approval of a vaccine for COVID-19.  CNN is reporting, “The FDA has informed Pfizer it intends ‘to proceed towards an authorization of the manufacturer's COVID-19 vaccine.”  This means the vaccination process could start as soon as Monday or Tuesday.

\r\n Ridgefield resident and RSD parent Dr. Bobbie Hemmelman of Woodland Chiropractic, Columbia Bank, and the Pass It On Project donated five Anti-Stress baskets last week.  The District received 168 nominations for deserving staff.  Congratulations to all those that received nominations.  We have a truly exceptional team.  From those nominations, the following team members earned the baskets:

  • Josh Christensen (Ridgefield High School)\r\n
  • Brianne Norby (Sunset Ridge/View Ridge)\r\n
  • Jennifer Ingham (Union Ridge)\r\n
  • Christina Green (South Ridge)\r\n
  • Heidi Smith (RACC/ELC)\r\n

\r\n Our very own Ridgefield High School drama department will be streaming on-demand “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” this weekend.  Use the following link to access this fantastic online production (It's a Wonderful Life).  Use promo code RHSACCESS to view it for free.

If you are one of the more than 300 new families with students in our district this year, you may not be aware, but we have a tradition here in Ridgefield. Each year the Ridgefield School District, in collaboration with the Ridgefield Art Association, holds a Superintendent’s Holiday Greeting Card Contest.  We received numerous entries that were all beautiful, which made the decision very difficult.  After much deliberation, Amelia Natterstad’s (a 7th-grade student at View Ridge Middle School) card earned the distinction of being Ridgefield School District’s 2020 holiday greeting card.  Congratulations Amelia!

I continue to enjoy the photos that many of you are so generously sharing with the District.  Please keep them coming to student.photos@ridgefieldsd.org.  I would love to see the many family traditions and celebrations you enjoy this holiday season.  You never know; you may even be featured in a future  Community Update.\r\n

Stay well and remain #RidgefieldResilient.

\r\n

 Sincerely,

Dr. Nathan McCann
