From the Desk of Mr. Drouhard
Dear Amity Families,
I know that we have students that do fabulous things inside and outside the classroom on a daily basis. I just wanted to take time to share one of those stories with you this week and give a glimpse into the growth of our students here at Amity.
Early this week I was approached by Mrs. Surber, a 6th grade language arts and social studies teacher. She had that proud look in her eyes, and quickly followed with, “I need to show you this.”
Mrs. Surber shared with me that her class watches Newsdepth, which covers current events around Ohio and Nationally. During one segment of the show, they pose questions to the students for them to think about and write in to respond. The previous week's question was, “How would you use a robot to combat COVID19?” Mrs. Surber turned on the recording of the show, and in response to the question, our Amity student, Serenity Kimbell, had a written response saying “A robot could maybe remind or alert someone when they got more than 6 feet close, or if it saw a person without a mask, tell the person to be alert.” I wish I had a picture of how proud Mrs. Surber was, but I know she is not the only teacher that will be proud when they read this. In looking back at all the teachers Serenity has had at Holmes and then Amity, each one has helped grow academically to where she is today, and they are all still apart of our staff!
We strive to inspire a passion for learning in our students. Serenity displayed that passion and had taken it upon herself, on her own time, to respond and engage in the conversation which others around the state saw. We hope we continue to have this effect on our students for years to come!

Virtual Veterans Day - Wednesday, November 11
Though we will not be able to host our traditional 2nd Grade Veterans Day program as we have in the past, our 2nd grade students and teachers have been diligently working on a video program, which will be released to the public on Wednesday, November 11. Be on the lookout for that video next week!
Hybrid Schedule Reminders
Amity Elementary will remain on their hybrid model as we originally announced through November 24th. With the week of Thanksgiving being a shortened week, “A” day students will report on Monday, November 23rd and “B” day students will report on Tuesday, November 24th. All students in the district will be on Thanksgiving Break from Wednesday, November 25th through Friday, November 27th.
For planning purposes, our current plan is for all students in grades 1 through 12 to return to full time face-to-face instruction on Monday, November 30th. Kindergarten students will remain on their half day schedules.
UPDATE! AMITY PICTURE DAY
Retake picture dates have been revised due to the return of Amity’s Hybrid Schedule.
Monday, November 30 - Retakes for Hybrid Schedule A students, including PS and KG morning and afternoon classes.
Friday, December 4 - Retakes for Hybrid Schedule B students.
Please be sure to bring the packet of pictures you wish to replace. If your student missed having his/her picture taken earlier this year, you’ll want to order pictures online (see below) and ask their teacher to be sure they make their way to the PDC that day.
Virtual Learners
Wednesday, November 11 from 9 AM-Noon - Fall pictures for Virtual Learners will be taken in our PDC room. You’ll want to complete your photo order online before picture day.
To pre-order student photos, please choose one of the two options below:
- Go to https://ritchiephoto.simplephoto.com/ and enter Amity’s code: AMIE21U into the "Private Gallery Search." Then, enter the information requested (Student Name, Grade, Homeroom) and confirm. You must select a background before choosing a picture package.
OR
- Print and complete this order form ahead of time. On picture day, your student will hand his/her form to the photographer, along with cash in the correct amount, or a check made out to Richie Photography. Payment is required on picture day when placing orders in paper form.
NEW OFFER! If you would like a class picture, Richie Photography will create a composite of your students’ classmates. You can order a class picture from the Richie Photo site, using code: AMCP21. Note: class pictures can only be purchased online.
Safety/Questions?
Our new photographers have assured us that every precaution will be taken to keep our students safe while having their pictures taken. Ritchie Photography will clean and sanitize surfaces between uses and work with our students to maximize social distancing. If you have any questions about picture day, please refer to the order form above for more information or call Ritchie Photography at 513-941-6120.
In Case You Missed It
Holiday Assistance
With the leaves beginning to change, we’re reminded that the holidays will be here before we know it. If you and your family are in need of assistance this holiday season, fill out a Holiday Food Drive form. All the buildings have forms available and the forms were also sent home with students. More information can be found HERE.

Neighborhood Traffic At Arrival and Dismissal
With bringing all students back and not being able to provide a shuttle due to COVID19, we have increased our traffic around Amity Elementary. Please remember to be respectful of our neighbors by not parking in their yards, blocking driveways, or using driveways to turn around. We want to forge strong relationships with our neighbors and your efforts can help!
Outdoor Recess
With a return to cooler temperatures, please remember to send your child to school with appropriate outdoor attire for recess. We are working hard to go out to recess daily, especially as it allows for a time that our students can take a socially distanced mask break. Our recesses are 30 minutes in length this year so it is important that our students be comfortable while they are outside.
