A man who was shot by Pensacola police officers Friday during an armed confrontation with another man is now in jail and faces aggravated assault, weapons offenses and other charges.

Kevontarious Kerrell Kamar Wilson, 24, of Pensacola, was charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault, simple battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and grand theft of a firearm.

Officers shot Wilson twice Friday in the 900 block of Intendencia Street on Friday after they found him pointing a handgun at another individual, Pensacola Police Department spokesman Mike Wood said last week.

The incident was initially reported to the PPD as an armed disturbance. When officers arrived on scene, they saw two men outside fighting over a handgun while an AK-47 was on the ground nearby, according to Wood. He said one of the men obtained sole possession of the handgun and targeted the other individual.

Wilson allegedly refused officers' orders to drop the weapon, and after the command was repeated four times, an officer shot Wilson. Wood said the officer who fired his weapon feared for the safety of himself and the individual Wilson had in his sights.

The wounds Wilson suffered in the incident were not fatal and did not require surgery, police said.

The identities of the officer who shot Wilson and the other person involved in the initial confrontation have not been released.

Wilson was transported to Escambia County Jail on Sunday and is being held on $100,000 bond, according to jail records.
