Ronnie Newman, age 74 of Georgetown, Tx passed away on Friday, January 15, 2021.  Ronnie was born on September 19, 1946, in San Antonio, Tx to Richard B. and Cleo N. Newman.  He was a graduate of Highlands High School, class of 1964, where he played football.  Graduated from St. Mary's University where he played baseball and later was inducted into the St. Mary’s University Athletic “Hall of Fame”.  Baseball was always a part of his life from an early age.  He started in Little League, played Pony and Colt League, Senior Ball, and College Baseball.  He was approached to play pro baseball while he was in college, but declined to complete his education at St. Mary's on his baseball scholarship.  He had a very successful baseball career, meeting many people, including Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra.  He cherished his long- time acquaintances and friends he had met throughout his lifetime. He continued in baseball, coaching Little League for many years.  He worked in sales at Allied Sales for 38 years in Austin, Tx, and retired 5 years ago.

 

 He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend, who will be dearly missed.  He was adored by many.

 

 He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Betty (Maierhofer) Newman; their son, Bryan Newman and wife Olivia, children, Bryce and Brooke; daughter, Laura (Newman) Dykes and husband Clint, child, KayLynn;  his sisters, Andrea (Newman) Tondre and husband Ron,  and Merldine (Newman) Talley and husband Buster; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leroy and Mary (Maierhofer) Alves, and William and Sally (Soechting) Maierhofer.  Many loving friends, nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Cleo Newman, and his mother-in-law, Viola Maierhofer, and father-in-law Earl Maierhofer.

 

Funeral services will be held, Friday, January 22, 2021, at Tres Hewell Mortuary in Seguin with the Rev. Jim Price officiating.  Funeral services will be private.  Immediate family only due to Covid Restrictions and CDC protocols must be followed. Interment will follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park in New Braunfels., Tx.  Serving As pallbearers will be Pace Talley, Marc Alves, Dustin Tondre, Mike Alves, Jay Wilke, and Clay Hollub.
