The beacons aren't a guaranteed hit, they just make the hex perfectly spotted. I think that's a -5 based on the last artillery round? Also our Tlaloc crews have oblique artilleryman, so they have an extra -1 when firing indirectly. Not sure if that also applies here.

Some of the missiles scattered last time, a few might this time as well.

I'm thinking of switching Most Valuable Player (which has connotations I've never liked) to Most Entertaining Player. I think that might create less pressure to perform and encourage having fun, which is the goal.

I'll probably keep the MVNPC the same (because I use their performance to gauge what people like to see from me in-mission).

It's gonna be hard to pick an MVP this time around, solely because everything the players have done pales in comparison to the sheer and utter chaos caused by the Tlalocs.

I mean, when you /delete/ an entire Star of Clans 'Mechs in a single volley, it's kind of hard to come up with a follow up to that which is anywhere near as impressive.

I specifically abstain from voting in the player MVP race unless someone does something crazy awesome or really gives it up for the team rather than just going by whoever had the most kills or did the most damage. It's very much a team game, and sometimes the most valuable person is the one taking up poo poo jobs to try and keep everybody else safe while they get to have fun.

It's like playing a support or tank in a MOBA. You may not get the most kills or do the most damage, but you can definitely have the biggest effect on the games sometime. And you'll almost never get recognized for your contribution for that reason.

Rainmaker Update 16
“They are still advancing,” Golzar cautioned unnecessarily. “Congratulations, Star Colonel. Your plan has really made them angry.”

“I don’t care how angry they are, Mechwarrior,” Kavitha chastised. “We are Smoke Jaguars. Strike down the weakest ones and move on to healthier prey. Let’s teach these Nova Cats what a real battle is like.”

“As ordered, Star Colonel!” Golzar’s reply was snappy. He pounded a fist against one of his monitors as it flickered and threatened to short out. Even with a full ton of electromagnetic shielding, the Tightstream EMP Cannon still flooded the machine’s electronics with charged particles every time it fired. Cancer wasn’t much of a worry for Clan warriors, their medical technicians could repair such diseases with gene therapy, but the bursts would break down the Sarath’s electronics over time and necessitate a complete overhaul. If the mission hadn’t demanded this variant, Golzar would have preferred one with a more traditional armament.

The Cave Lion is still alive (!), and he's managed to position himself so that he's covered by the Hellhawk which is quite annoying.

I'm standing still and shooting the Blood Reaper again.

Sarath you can consider working your way up the hill with the eventual aim of dropping in behind the Hellhawk when he engages us. I don't think you can engage safely this turn without being shot to hell.

Hel moving to 1117 will give you a good shot at ending the Cave Lion. His PPC fires back on 8s, but the Hellhawk will be hitting you on 4s so it's dicey trade.

Skinwalker can move up to near where the Sarath is currently located and try for a long shot against the Cave Lion without having to worry about the Hellhawk.

Given the options, maybe the Skinwalker and Sarath should advance up to flank, while the rest of us stay behind the pillar for now. The Cave Lion will round the corner before the Hellhawk can engage unless the Clanners decide to play smart, and we can blow him away then. Also I will be free to tank the Hellhawk and give the Hel and Jaguar Warrior an extra turn or two of shooting.

Edit VVV Agreed but I still think the Skinwalker should reposition for next turn. He's only contributing a PPC to the fight when the Blood Reaper is already full of holes and just needs bunch of crits to kill it. Between me + Hel + Jaguar Warrior there should be enough firepower going downrange to finish it. If the Skinwalker relocates and shoots the Cave Lion from safety, the worst that happens is he eats a PPC in exchange, but if he hits there is a good chance for the Cave Lion to go down. If it doesn't we'll finish it next turn and hopefully some artillery will be incoming on the Hellhawk.

I really think you guys should try to focus down one at a time. The Cave Lion has gotten ahead of the Hellhawk, but they can cover each other. Meanwhile you guys (except the Sarath) could conceivably all shoot the Blood Reaper without the other two enemies being able to shoot you (the Hel can walk backwards three really easily, ect). This lets you focus down a badly damaged, but still threatening, mech while avoiding fire from the other two, giving artillery more time to damage the other two and keeping you guys fresher.

Rainmaker Update 17
“Star Colonel—we apologize for not fulfilling your request for close support. The coordinated support requests keep coming in and—”

“This is your purpose, point commander.” Kavitha interrupted the tank commander’s apology. “Fulfill bombardment requests first, as ordered. There are only a few targets left. Once you’ve exhausted your ammunition, or if the support requests stop, withdraw to the DropShips to rearm.” She scowled, the skies had been too clear. She’d hoped to pick off the enemy aerospace one star at a time. “Swap out your homing munitions for anti-aircraft missiles. By now their pilots must realize how badly things have gone. They’ll be scrambling to get their fighters in the air, which should take them minutes yet. I want them brought down en masse the moment they appear.”

“Understood, Star Colonel,” the vehicle commander sounded relieved that she wasn’t angry.

“Assuming they don’t surrender when we kill their commander in a few moments, and assuming their pilot are stupid enough to not be monitoring the battle, if we haven’t seen fighters by the time you’re rearmed we’ll begin a general bombardment of the airfield with high explosive munitions. That should rile them up.”
