Informative, if a bit outdated. Though the productions I've been to in Europe are way simpler and I wish they stay that way and don't become Hollywood-style machines described here.

If God ever made a perfect how-to guide and handbook for any aspiring filmmaker and producer, THIS is certainly it. Honthaner's book covers EVERYTHING you will ever need to know about bringing a film from the page all the way to completion! She runs through Pre-Production, Production, and Post-Production procedures, helps you put together a crew, leads you through union and safety regulations, tells you how to handle using animals in your film, and way WAY more. She also includes a bunch of templates for you to use from breakdown sheets to call sheets to Taft-Hartley reports (and if you don't know what these are, she gives you a straight-forward super simple explanation for them)! This book has EVERYTHING and is a must-have for anyone who wants to produce a professional film in the most efficient and organized way possible. Get it, own it, love it.

This is one of the best books out there on the subject of film production. Everyone in "the business" should read it - at least for a general overview if nothing else. It's comprehensive and on point. Really well done. I make my entire team read it.

Thorough, comes with a CD of useful forms. Even though it's a textbook-y read, she injects humour and really practical advice (and is very experienced).

Very helpful if you are looking to make your first short film with no film school experience.

Extremely thorough. A bit out-dated and not super focused on independent filmmaking, but she touches on everything.

An excellent book. It really gets down into the day-to-day nitty-gritty of film-making. Tons of forms and common sense suggestions. A must-read for any producer!
