Manchester Met are proud to become an accredited Living Wage Employer

On the 1st April 2020, Manchester Met took the first step to pay all staff employed directly and indirectly by the University (including through Jobs 4 Students and agencies) the Living Wage Foundation's accredited rate of £9.30 an hour.

What is the Living Wage Foundation?

The Living Wage Foundation pay rate is an independently calculated hourly rate of pay that is based on the actual cost of living each year and is higher than the government’s minimum, or National Living Wage.

Manchester Met join nearly 6,000 organisations as an accredited employer demonstrating our
continued commitment to decent work and in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It’s also an important part of our activity to secure accreditation through the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter.

Professor Ben Lupton, Professor of Employment and Director of the Decent Work and Productivity Research Centre said, “We are delighted that the University has received the Living Wage accreditation. As an influential and high-profile employer in the city, it is particularly significant that Manchester Met has taken this step.”

Dr Katy Jones, Senior Research Associate in the Research Centre added “Paying the ‘real’ Living Wage is the right thing for a good employer to do, and is underpinned by both a strong moral and business case.”

This has been a University-wide initiative with many teams playing a pivotal role from Reward
and Pensions, Finance and Procurement to Jobs4Students.
