A Message from the Administrators

Hello Deer Park High School Families! Happy Sunday!

The month of April flew by and our Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School staff and students are focused on ensuring we close out the 2021-22 school year in style. We have much work to do and much to celebrate as a Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School family. Our focus during the day in the month of May will be to continue maximizing best practice instructional lessons in every classroom. That you can count on!

Also, we have much to celebrate in May and your Wildcat Weekly will keep you well informed of the many events. An outline of upcoming events include:

  • Deer Park Roaring 22 Prom on May 7 from 7:00-11:00 p.m., at the Mayerson JCC.
  • On May 10 we will hold our Underclassmen Academic Awards at 7:00 p.m. at Crawford Auditorium. More details to come on this event.
  • On May 11 our Deer Park High School and Junior High School students will have a Pep Rally at the end of school day to celebrate our spring sports.
  • On May 11 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. we will host an Ice Cream Social right in front of Crawford Auditorium. Come out for a good time!
  • Friday, May 13 at 2:00 p.m., we will host a National Honor Society Induction Ceremony in our Crawford Auditorium for students who are inducted into the National Honor Society. Those student families will be invited to attend.

To say the least we have a full slate of events/celebrations listed above not including the after school sports and clubs that are taking place in May. Mindy and our Team are here to serve you! Exciting times at Deer Park High School!

LIfe is good!

Classroom Highlight

During the month of May, we are closing out the school year strong and celebrating with many events. At the same time work is taking place daily to prepare for the 2022-23 school. I am very excited for John Vander Meer after a rigorous interview process to be the new Principal at Deer Park High School. John and Mindy have been meeting regularly since February preparing for the upcoming school year and John has been attending multiple events since February to begin cultivating relationships with our Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School staff, students, and families. John will be at DPHS on May 11, spending the day attending the Pep Rally with our students and attending the Ice Cream Social after school on May 11 in addition to other after school events during the month of May. 2022-23 is shaping up to be a great year! The sky is the limit to what John, Mindy, the staff, students, and families will achieve in 2023 at DPHS. More to come from John and Mindy!

Summer Learning Opportunities

Though summer break is a great time to reset and recharge, we also want to let our families know about a few learning opportunities that we will be offering:

SUMMER SCHOOL (CREDIT RECOVERY)

Our Summer School program is intended for credit recovery for any high school students who did not pass a core class (ELA, Math, Science, or Social Studies) during the 2021-2022 school year.

Because we do not have final grades yet, you may not necessarily know if your student would qualify.  While we hope to not have any students in this scenario, we also want to provide this opportunity to help our students stay on track to graduate!

The summer school program will have students placed on our Apex Online Learning platform, and students will work through topics that they have not yet mastered in order to earn a passing grade for the course.  There is a small cost ($50) for each course, and our Summer School monitor will help guide students throughout the program.  It is a 6 week program running from June 6th- July 18th (no school July 4th).

More information to come!

ACT BOOTCAMP

Each summer, we provide an opportunity for students to work with our teachers and an online platform to help prepare our students for success on the ACT.  This summer, we will have two sessions (students would only participate in one session).  Best of all, these sessions are FREE to students!

  • Session 1: June 20th - June 29th  (8:00am - 12:00pm)
  • Session 2: August 1st - August 9th (8:00am - 12:00pm)

These sessions are for incoming Juniors and Seniors.  If you are interested in this opportunity, please complete this form.

Building news

  • Graduation Information: Weather permitting, graduation will be held on Hank Estes Field. Families may invite as many members as they like.

Should there be inclement weather, Graduation will be moved to Crawford Auditorium. Should Graduation be moved to Crawford Auditorium, each student will receive a total of 8 graduation tickets (5 on the floor and 3 in the balcony). In this case, graduation will be live streamed. Please note that a ticket is required for admittance.

  • Complete the Hamilton County Broadband Survey to have your say!

Does your current broadband internet service in Hamilton County meet your current and future needs?

Can you stream movies, or have a Zoom meeting while someone is online gaming in the other room with no screen freeze or “spinning circle”?

Completing the Hamilton County Broadband Survey includes your voice in planning for future-ready broadband throughout Hamilton County.

With funding available to expand and improve broadband services, now is the time to ask, “Is my internet service acceptable today – and for the next 20 years?”

If you’ve never had an internet connection problem, never mind; do nothing. Otherwise, click here to take the survey.
