While Opening Day is usually magical for Cincinnati, this year's day was significant in local high school baseball circles as well.

It's when Cincinnati Christian pitcher Mitchell Smith tossed a perfect game on 11 strikeouts in a 10-0 home win over Norwood, with Cody Anderson behind the plate.

MItchell Smith, right, with the help of his catcher Cody Anderson, had a perfect game March 28, a 10-0 win over Norwood.

What's more, Smith (2-0) went 4-for-5 at the plate with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored. He got other run support from Caden Glenn, 2-for-4 with two RBI, and Tim Carangi, 1-for-3, two RBI and two runs.

"Being around this game now for over 30 years as a player and coach, I've personally never seen a more dominated performance," Cincinnati Christian head coach Curtus Moak said. "Great future on and off the field for this young man. He has worked so hard and I'm not surprised at all that this has happened. Our school, coaching staff and players are so honored to be a part."

Smith is 2-0 on the season, pitching a total of 11 innings. He allowed zero runs during that span while only giving up one hit, zero walks and one hit by pitcher (HBP). His 20 strikeouts on the season lead the Miami Valley Conference.

Cincinnati Christian is currently leading the MVC Gray Division with a 3-0 record, with two wins in a double-header with Landmark and this win over Norwood. They play New Miami at 5 p.m. tonight, Friday, March 29, with Smith in the outfield.
