Rono earned All-America honors in the 1,500-meter run at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships twice — winning the national championship in the event in 2006 — while claiming 12 Sun Belt Conference championships and earning all-league honors on 15 occasions in his two years as a Jaguar.  He was selected the most outstanding track performer and was also top point scorer at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor and Outdoor Championships each spring, helping the Jaguars earn a share of the outdoor team title in 2007 with 40.5 points after winning the 800 meters, mile run and 3,000 meters at the meet.  In cross country, Rono won seven of the 14 races he participated in — including both SBC Championships — while advancing to the NCAA Championships each fall.  He ended his career holding school cross country records at distances of 5, 8 and 10K while also setting USA standards in the 800, 1,500 and 10,000 meters as well as the indoor and outdoor mile.
