U3818DW, not working after failed firmware update

The one year warranty expired on July 25, 2018. My U3818DW USB type C has not been working well on Windows. Then I tried updating the firmware using my MacBook. The update did not complete the installation, it failed with a message showing directing that I should disconnect the display, switch it off and on, then connect it back to my laptop and try running the firmware updater again.

The USB Type-C was working well on my MacBook. When I was running the update the only connected cables to the monitor were: 1. The monitor power input, and 2. USB Type-C connected between my MacBook and the monitor.

After I did that the display is turning on but it is not detecting any input. It keeps showing 'scanning for signal..'

Does anyone have an idea what I should do?

This is the firmware update I was trying to install from here. The selected OS is Apple Mac OS.

The same exact thing just happened to me on Monday as well. I tried to update my U3818DW firmware using a MacBook Pro, the update failed, and now I cannot connect with USB-C. I just tried a new $40 Apple Thunderbolt 3 cable to make sure it wasn't cable and that didn't help. My monitor is out of warranty, but I can't believe that a simple firmware update would kill a monitor that costs > $1000.

Which mac OS version were you using? I was using Big Sur.

I'm still on Catalina. It now appears that my USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 connection is completely broken. I bought a USB C - Display Port adapter and now have to plug in 3 cords (USB 3, Display Port, Power) instead of 1 in order to use the monitor.

Hi,

Please allow me sometime to review the case and I'll get back to you on DM.

Did you find anything that can help us with this?
Is there any hope of fixing the monitor?
What should we do?

And just incase another firmware update is released, is it possible to upgrade from M3B101 to M3B106?

USB type c stopped working completely, which is the most important port in the monitor.

It is just an expensive monitor and disposing it due to a faulty firmware released by a manufacturer is so unfair.

Please help.
