Randy Jackson On Why He Always Uses The Word 'Dawg' (VIDEO)

Since the first season of "American Idol" debuted in 2002, judge Randy Jackson became known for his "dawg" talk during his honest-but-fair critiques. "Yo, dawg," "Wassup, dawg," and let's not forget: "The dawg pound."

The slang, Jackson tells Oprah in the above "Oprah: Where Are They Now?" video, dates back to his childhood. "I grew up in the hood in the south of Baton Rouge, Louisana," Jackson says. "The hood always has the different vernaculars, you know?"

"What I love, and what is at the core of my soul, is creativity and authenticity," he says. "In the hood, it's always original and definitely creative."

While it's a reminder of his past, you won't catch Jackson saying "the dawg thing" much anymore. "There's always something new that's happening because they get tired of that word and they figure out another word to use," he says.
