Greece.- Pratt (Edward Roger, British traveller and collector of antiquities, 1789-1863) An album of 28 watercolours and other works on paper from a journey to ancient sites and monuments in the Mediterranean, relating to Pratt's journals of the trip [private collection], the album includes watercolours of the coasts of Gozo, Zembra, and the Coast of Barbary, architectural sites of interest in Greece and Turkey, including Mycenae, Tiryns, Athens, 'Smyrna', Rhodes, as well as watercolours of unidentified sites, scenes from onboard ships "returning from Egypt" showing slaves and local figures, and with six photographs, four by the Russian-Swiss photographer Gabriel de Rumine (1841-1871) on publisher's lettered mounts, two others unidentified, all mounted or tipped on album leaves, the Rumine's on stubs, watercolours on wove Whatman papers, some with watermark dates from 1825 to 1831, various sizes between 60 x 80 mm. (2 1/4 x 3 1/8 in) and 240 x 520 mm. (9 1/2 x 20 1/2 in), many inscribed and dated between 1831 and 1834, some leaves with items removed, some handling creases, tears, surface dirt and occasional browning, original marbled boards, upper cover detached, spine split, very worn, oblong folio, [circa 1830 and later]
