Moth to a Flame

Rate this book
The only thing drawn to her more than danger is him…

Danger isn’t Zoey’s middle name. But it is something she can’t forget, something she’s reminded of every time she looks in the mirror. For those reasons, Zoey has become an expert at creating the perfect illusion. Her ability to fool the eye, to create truth where there was previously none makes her the best in the business.

Working as a makeup and special effects artist for Hollywood combines her two life must-haves: her passion for makeup and hiding in plain sight.

It also doesn’t hurt that she’s safe within the heavily secured and secret studio sets, away from the public eye.

Then her perfect job becomes her perfect nightmare.

Not only does her illusion slip with the blast of icy water, but it does so in front of the country’s biggest action hero and the gossipiest of celebrity TV shows.

At first, Zoey thinks danger hasn’t caught up to her and the worst thing about her mishap is the world’s most perfect man sees her in all her not-so-perfect glory.

Until a series of unexplained “accidents” begins on set.

That’s when Zoey knows.

Danger has caught up to her… and this time she fears death has, too.

Told in multiple POV, 1st person, it’s a standalone novel. it’s a slow burn and contains flashbacks. It’s not an easy read! For me, it took time to warm up to the h. I didn’t like her so much. I know she was through a lot and I mean A LOT but still! I know it’s fiction and just a story but I expected her to be more confident about her face. Let me tell you a story: when I was in high school I had a classmate. Her face was completely burnt, damaged and scarred. We weren’t close but she showed us a picture of herself before the burning and let me tell you she was so beautiful. Anyway, this girl was very confident, she didn’t use any makeup, she didn’t shy away from anyone, she didn’t let anybody bully her… I always was in awe of her and always wanted to have her confidence. I told you this story just to say it took too long for the h to show her face to the H completely without makeup (after the first half). Maybe it was because of the pacing or maybe it was wrong of me to compare what I saw in my teenage years with this one. Well, what can I say! My mind wouldn’t listen to me to not to. Anyway, it was another good read by this author (but not one of her best) and hope you like it as well!

Five perfect stars for Zoey and Nick 💙!!!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

The last year Cambria became one of my top favorite authors because of "Hashtag" series which has taken my heart and never gave it back to me, but I don't care 😜😍!

She is the author whose books I take without reading a blurb because I know that whatever she writes that will be amazing 🤩.

And that is true...

Because "Moth to a Flame" was OMG so good and totally different from the "Hashtag" series because of the genre, but I loved it so much ❤🔥!

Once I've started reading this book, I couldn't take a break 😅.

It's totally page-turner book!

What I loved the most in the book was two main characters, Zoey and Nick, and the chemistry between them.

Zoey character is the strongest female character I had the chance to meet in the books, I've read this year, and she impressed me.

From the other side, there is Nick, a famous, the sexiest man alive who fall in love with Zoey no matter she isn't perfect as the other woman in Hollywood.

I highly recommend this book to everyone who loves to read a good suspense romance and everyone who loves reading Cambria's books no matter if you only had read "Hashtag" series because, as I said on beginning, whatever Cambria writes, it's amazing and worth every minute you spend reading her book!

Can't wait for another book from her ❤❤❤!!!

Holy shiiiiit. To say I wasn’t expecting this book would be a damn understatement, just wow.

ARC received in exchange for an honest review

When I read the info about this book it intrigued me and I knew right away I was going to have to read it and boy, am I glad I did.

Zoey is a real heroine my absolute favourite heroine I’ve ever come across. She’s been through so much in her life and years after she’s still struggling but she won’t give up without a fight. She’s spent her life hiding and lonely but strong and beautiful. I really do adore her and the way cambria rolled out her past through her memories was simply incredible. I’m in awe.

Nick was so much more than I even thought. He’s famous and constantly in the spotlight. He’s strong and protective and we really do see a man who will do anything for anyone. I loved that the most about him.

Cambria really delivers with her books and Moth to a Flame really showcases her talent. This woman can truly wrote anything and blow me away. I’ve never read a book quite like this one and I sure do hope we get more like this one from Cambria in the future.

Moth to the Flame was slightly dark and suspenseful, it had me sitting on the end of my seat chomping away at my nails. It was twisted and beautiful all mixed into one outstanding story. It’s a beautiful love story with a heartbreaking past and a shocking present.

Cambria continues to surprise me with every book she writes. And this book just proved to me that she truly can write any kind of book and that her romantic suspense romances are my jam.

And let's not forget the fact that her heros are the best! I swear that there is not one hero of hers that I don't love or swoon like crazy over and Nick is so swoon worthy... you have no idea. I almost immediatly fell in love with him and he just got better and better as the story went on.

I also adored our heroine, she has been through so much and you slowly learn it bit by bit, either from her memories or events that are currently happening. It's a slow reveal and you'll be shocked when you finally learn her whole truth. I loved the process of learning what had happened to her before and how she got her scars. But most of all, I loved her strength and courage. Her life wasn't easy and it was lonely. Letting someone in was very hard for her but Nick broke down her walls little by little and gosh I loved watching him be super protective over her and taking care of her. SWOON. SWOON. SWOON.

Nick is an actor and Zoey is a make up artist that works on the set of the movie he's filming. Zoey has been hiding for seven years and being seen so close to the sexiest actor in Hollywood brings her to the spotlight. All of a sudden her life is splashed everywhere and all the secrets she's kept are unveiled, making her life crazy and dangerous. Nick feels guilty and he takes on the role of her protector, in and outside of set. When crazy acidents start happening and things get crazier, Nick and Zoey grow even closer. When Nick's assistant disappears, Zoey is forced to tell him about her past and they soon realise just how connected their lives are.

Moth to a Flame is a crazy suspensful ride that will have you on the edge of your seat waiting for answers and things to be unveiled, it's the sweetest love story that will have you swooning left and right and just crazy in adoration over these two. It's a book filled with mystery, suspense and shocking moments mixed in with all the romantic, swoon worthy and emotional ones. I truly enjoyed this story, beginning to end. I've never read a book like it and that made it all the more special.

I finished this book only a couple hours ago and I can't get it out of my mind. It was such a suspenseful rollercoaster! But let's proceed with order.

Zoey is our main character and let me tell you, this girl has been through a lot. In fact, one of the things I liked the most about this book is in how much graphic detail and precision the author describes what happened to her. I think sometimes it does a disservice to the victims to portray what they went through in vague details. Without understanding the full horror of what happened to Zoey, in fact, I wouldn't have been able to fully understand the depth of her trauma. There were a couple scenes that were downright cruel and brutal and I absolutely loved it, because unfortunately that is the reality when you are held captive by a sick bastard like serial killers often are. Zoey's past story is told through flashbacks and even though usually I am not a big fan of them because they interrupt the main narration, in this case I was equally as interested in them as in the main story because it allowed me to understand her better, but also because they were captivating and really got me to root for her with bated breath. Cue, I think I held my breath for five to ten minutes while I was reading a certain action and desperation-packed flashback.

Which brings me to the next point: this book has a serial killer as a villain and some of the chapters were written from his point of view. Again, great choice. When certain things were happening to Zoey, if we wouldn't have had the chapters from his POV, I would have been inclined to believe she was just a very unlucky girl and that the things that were happening were simply a way to further the plot, but knowing that there was someone lurking in the shadows kept me on my toes the entire time. I also believe that the choice to keep his chapters short and sweet and to the point was winning, since the main narration should always be left to the main characters.

Now onto the next main character, Nick. Sweet, thoughtful, protective Nick. It's no mistery why I fall in love with every character this author writes. She has this way of making the heroes so utterly likable and adoring that you cannot help but want to snag them right out of the pages. I loved how careful he was with Zoey and how he was always walking the fine line between trying to get her to like him and open up to him, but also being respectful of her wishes and not pressuring her.

This book was definitely a slow burn and very sweet at times, which I didn't mind because that's what Zoey needed. She was lonely for such a long time and I appreciated how she and Nick took the time to explore their feelings without really rushing things. It felt natural and it also assured Zoey that his feelings for her were not just fleeting.

The only minor flaw that I could find was the amount of clumsiness and the fact that Nick swooped in to save Zoey from her tripping, falling, fainting, a little too frequently. Hey, I am a gal who gets often dizzy and faints quite regularly, on top of being super clumsy, so I get it, but I feel that when I start to notice that an action is repeated too much, for how gallant, it loses how special it is. In this case, because of Zoey and her physical condition, it was believable at times, but at other times it was just a bit too incidental.

I think overall what I liked the most about this book is that there was always something going on, either on the romantic side, or on the suspense side. From the paparazzi hounding our heroes, to catty starlets to kidnappings and plot twists.

As usual, a super entertaining read, this time with a very dark side, but with also a very bright romance to balance it. I would definitely recommend it!

So I gave up on this one @64% because it irritated the hell out of me. A very different storyline from the talented Cambria Hebert but I couldn't last the pace with this one.

Maybe I was too impatient?

Maybe I wanted a bit more speed?

Maybe I should have persevered until the end but I couldn't. So I will go back and finish it when I am in the right frame of mind.

i love love Cambria’s writing style, her stories are so unique and it feels like i am reading a fairy tale, but at the same time her stories follows a dark aspect as well such as in this one there is a serial killer and our heroine Zoey has been a victim of the killer and now she is trying to live a normal life, out of the spot light until she catches the attention of a famous movie actor who is smitten by her. Zoey has issues because of the trauma she suffered but Nick is such a great guy, she earns her trust and loves her for both of them. Nick was a gentleman, he was so nice and calm with Zoey and helped her with her Trauma or whenever she needed help, he never questioned her scars or fear rather gave her time to trust him. This story is about a hollywood actor and a make up artist with the suspense of the serial killer and how Nick and Zoey are connected.

What i didnt like about this book was that Zoey claims to be independent women who doesnt need any help but throughout the book she cries a lot, and always needs Nick’s help and its just not once or twice, every page she is in some kind of trouble and out of no where Nick is there to help her. Literally, Nick wasnt even supposed to be there, he was supposed to be shooting but he appears out of no where when Zoey is in trouble like dude arent u supposed to be acting? They fell in love too fast, the insta love was unrealistic..the whole book was unrealistic kinda tbh because Nick is known the hottest guy in the world who is also an actor but he is also such a good guy who cares about literally everyone and falls for his make up artist and always protects her like a hero..yeah kinda unrealistic...very unrealistic. I liked the book but also somethings just didnt add up.

Gosh, Zoey broke my heart! Knowing all the trauma she's been through, I just wanted to hug and put her under my wings and protect her from everything. I love her so much.

And Nick is a dream, my god he's perfect! Protective, a bit of a caveman, but NOT an asshole at all. He was so thoughtful, respectful, and patient with Zo. His love for her was so pure. SIGH. Forever sad that he's just fictional.

The meaning behind the expression ‘like a moth to a flame’ is described as ‘irresistibly and dangerously attracted to something or someone.’

But while its interpretation is easy to understand on a basic level, the actual situation can be hellacious and devastating and in Cambria Hebert’s newest release, her heroine, Zoey, would much rather stay away from the danger that seems to seek her out regardless of what she does to hide from it.

Cambria Hebert does a great job of illustrating all the sides to Zoey’s personality and all the reasons why she lives her life they way she does. And as everything is fleshed out about Zoey and how much she’s struggled, it becomes clear just how amazing it is that she’s still making it day by day, and while some would argue that that’s not true living, it is once it’s shown what life has thrown her way.

Zoey’s past and the trauma experienced is told in a series of flashbacks, and while these scenes are difficult to read due to the events that occur and the cruelty and brutality that she endures, the description Cambria Hebert uses to capture these trails are what allow readers to understand just how scarred and damaged Zoey still is from those uncontrollable situations and the fact that they’re still following her around and the threat still exists in her present life is paramount to understanding just how strong and determined Zoey is to keep moving forward any way she can.

Nick is not a quintessential Hollywood actor; there’s so much more to him than his good looks and his ability to act, and the fact that he shows those traits to Zoey, protecting her, shielding her from all that he can, and proving to her that he is the real deal will endear him to readers and have us crushing on this amazing man from the start.

I have to admit…there was one point-of-view provided that disturbed me and terrified me in equal parts. And while I would have much preferred not to get inside the head of someone so deviant and deadly, it was absolutely necessary in order to get a full view of everything that Zoey is up against as she attempts to hide without really hiding up until the point she’s found.

With everything that Zoey must combat, it makes sense that any romantic relationship between her and Nick would be a slow burn, especially given the Hollywood setting and the difficulty in knowing who and what’s real or fake. It’s also portrayed in such a way due to the suspense and drama that’s strewn throughout the entirety of the story, which makes the multiple plot lines in it mesh well together and work together to reach a satisfactory resolution for all aspect displayed.

I’ve been a Cambria Hebert since her Take It Off series and through the years, I’ve read a variety of her book, enjoying the different types of romances she writes with a variety of tropes embedded throughout and it’s her diversity as a writer that will keep me coming back for more.

I don’t even know where to begin. Cambria Hebert is one of those authors who’s able to write so many drastically different stories yet still leave you with the same overwhelmingly wonderful feelings. Her talent with words knows no boundaries. Moth to a Flame is filled with gripping suspense, heartbreaking emotion and an absolutely breathtaking love story. Saying I was glued to the pages is an understatement. I was entirely captivated by this book.
The mystery surrounding things, the feeling of being on edge as things began to unravel, the strength of the characters, the love that exists between Nick and Zoey. Every aspect of this book is just so mesmerizing.

What an absolutely brilliant book this was!!!
Ok, so while I can tell you that this is one of the best books that I have ever read, I know that it's not for everyone. This story is not few the faint of heart purely because there are some very gruesome and violent acts that can be hard to digest. There is no sexual assault so don't even think that but it's not easy to read all the same.
Having said that this is a truly beautiful love story that I absolutely could not put down. I love the story from start to finish and even though I was happy I wanted so much more because the characters were just that amazing! While this is not Cambria's usual type of story she absolutely blew it out of the water. Thee is a suspense story and there is a great romance that comes along to but because it's a suspense story first there is a lot of story that is told. For me, I felt there was a great balance with the suspense and the romance and I couldn't be happier with it.
Really loved this and can't wait to re-read it all over again.
This is my honest and unbiased review.

OMG! You have to read it! It’s so intense. Zoe and Nick are complicated due to their pasts. Nick is awesome! Zoe learns to love herself and move forward. The suspense is over the top, kept me glued till I finished the book. Completely safe, but the flashbacks and the Moths point of view, are very graphic and intense. 5 stars all the way! Don’t miss out on reading this gem!

OH MY FUCKING GOD!!!!

This was an absolute trip, from start to finish. I think I went through every emotion possible and then some..

Firstly.. The Characters..

Zoey; I loved her, the strength she showed whilst trying to deal with the trauma she went through and how she still kept going even if she wanted to give up was truly inspiring.

Nick; I thought he was going to be another Hollywood actor, spoiled and self-centred but man was I wrong! He’s got to be one of the best male characters I’ve read in a long time.

The moth.. I HATE the fucker!!!!
Every time I read his POV I got the creeps and freaked out, that’s how seriously into this book I was!! lol

Secondly.. The storyline..

I’ve read quite a few of Cambria’s books and I knew I would love this one just as much BUT I didn’t realise how much I would feel compared to all her other books..
I honestly, truly felt creeped out by The Moth all the way through. There was a feeling of anticipation and wariness as I hit the half way mark that pretty much stayed with me till the last couple of chapters.

I was definitely hooked from the beginning and just couldn’t stop reading.

Cambria is such an amazing author, she always keeps me coming back for more that’s why she’s an instant One-Click author for me.

She definitely takes me on an emotional ride and I would definitely recommend her to anyone and everyone!!

Thank you Cambria! I REALLY appreciate all your hard work!

Cambria Hebert is an author I really like. Her books are not on the realistic side of things, but what can I say? I like the way this woman writes her romance and keeps you concentrating on what's going to happen.
Moth to a Flame is slightly different than her previous books. Here, Zoey survives a really horrible experience, and has her fair share of scars because of it (literally and metaphorically speaking). But she is a survivor, who has managed to be successful in a industry that basically allows no imperfections (she is a make-up artist, by the way).
Because of her job, she meets Nick Preston, the hot actor of the moment. He is really charming, nice to everyone, patient... and somehow is interested in her.
The romance was... well, honestly, VERY SLOW. The first kiss happened near the 50% of the story -according to my kindle- and rushed towards the end of the book. I didn't like that.
But the mystery part was kind of good. I mean, there were a lot of predictable stuff, but all in all, it was original.

Where do I even begin with this book??

Holy crap... my resting heart rate while reading this book had to have been at alarming levels. The suspense, the twists, the intrigue was one hell of an emotional rollercoaster. My manicure is no longer my friend thanks to being sucked into Zoey and Nick's story.

Cambria once again hits you with a creepy as hell bad guy that has you go "Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god."

Than she goes and has Nick Preston hitting you with lines that would even make one of my own all time favorite book boyfriends Roman Anderson proud.

You need this book in your life more than the moth needs the flame. 1-click this today.

I’m not sure there are enough words to describe how amazing this book is. I could not put down Moth to a Flame! This book was everything I expected it to be and more!

Zoey and Nick are complete opposites but somehow they work. She’s a strong character with a past, and as you get to know parts of her past your heart will break for everything she has gone through and everything she has survived. Nick on the other hand is Hollywood’s “It Guy” and for some reason is drawn to Zoey and can’t seem to stay away. He wants to know about her past, why she hides herself from everyone, he wants her trust, and he wants her.

How protective Nick is of Zoey is one thing I adore about this book, not even knowing all of her past, he knows there is something he needs to protect her from, and he does everything in his power to keep her safe, all while falling more and more for her. It’s sweet and endearing watching all of this play out throughout the book, and makes him the perfect book boyfriend.

Throw in the suspense element of the book and Zoey’s past coming back to haunt her, and this book is the perfect romantic suspense novel, and one of the best I’ve read in a very long time. Both Nick and Zoey are perfectly written characters, both flawed yet strong in their own ways, perfect for one another, and their story is absolutely one of my favorite books I’ve read this year. It was one I couldn’t put down, and one I wish I could re-read and experience all over again as a first time reader just to fall in love with the characters again, and go through all of the crazy suspense one more time! I can’t suggest one-clicking Moth to a Flame enough, this book is a definite must read!!!

BEST. BOOK. EVER!!!!!!!

A Thrillingly Suspenseful story that will BLOW YOU AWAY!!!!
It keeps you thinking and guessing as to what is going on and who is behind it all but just as you think you may have it figured out the story twists and turns and goes another direction and once again you are blown away!
It's very intriguing and it will definitely have you hooked from start to finish!
I didn't want to stop for anything I was afraid I would miss out on something crucial!!!!
It really keeps you on the edge of your seat and pumped with adrenaline!!!
While the story has a suspenseful and mysterious edge to it .. it also has a passionate side as well as you watch the chemistry between Zoey and Nick blossom and grow and turn into something so beautiful it will have you wishing you could a Nick in your life too... someone who loves you for the person you are not for what you look like, someone who genuinely cares for you and who will always be there to shield and protect you at all costs!!! It really gives you all the feels wholeheartedly and brings a tear to your eye!
I really love that the author wrote characters who have their own flaws and are also not perfect or be as you'd expect.. it makes them very easy to relate to because you also share the same aspects and it makes you feel even more connected to them and their story!!!
A fantastic book that's written very well you'll want to read it again and again!
I definitely recommend it!!!

5 Suspenseful Stars!!! I loved it! I recommend it! Read it!

She’s a girl hiding from everything. He’s a Hollywood star who just wants something real. She’s afraid to live. He’s going to show her that he’s worth the risk.

I was completely consumed by this story and these amazing characters. Zoey was strong yet weak at times. A resilient fighter, but falling apart. She was alone and lonely. She never expected someone like Nick to change everything. She had too much to lose. Too many secrets to keep hidden. A tragic past she almost didn’t survive.

Nick was one of the good ones. His instant attraction to Zoey was something he couldn’t ignore. Good thing he was persistent. He wanted to know her. To protect her. To keep her secrets and help her heal. To break down her walls so that he could get to her heart. He was a confident with all the right words that made you love him completely. He made falling in love with him easy.

I was riveted. I read late into the night just to find out the ending. The author delivered a beautifully written tale of tragedy and fighting your way back. This story was filled with brutal flashbacks of a past no one should survive and taking control to obtain the future she deserved. A love that healed. A man who saw her survival as a badge of honor and courage. A man who saw her strength and loved every part of her.

So, I am still letting this story soak in and I am still speechless at how amazing this story was. The concept alone was mind blowing and jaw dropping. How it all came full circle had my mind spinning and dying to know how it all concluded. Let me tell you that out of Hebert’s books, Moth to a Flame is going to go down as the best ever. Suspenseful and completely intriguing, you are falling down through the rabbit hole of a serial killer, a surviving victim and a Hollywood golden boy.
I was nervous because I struggle with actor/Hollywood stories, but what Hebert delivers is OH so much more. You are given a hero who is raw but open with his attraction to the heroine for unknown reasons. He wants her for her. Not the superficialness of Hollywood. You have a heroine who, through everything that she has endured, is a scrapper when pushed to far regardless of the past haunting her. She wants to take control of her life. How Nick protects Zoey through it all. Shielding her from prying eyes and so much more. Nick is very much swoon worthy in this story and Zoey is exactly perfect for him, broken and all. Then when things are found out, how real that connection was.
The one thing that drew me in is the suspense aspect of this story. While yes, it is a romance in the long run, the concept behind the Moth was just wow. I am honestly still trying to formulate the words for this. The flashbacks gave me chills. Literal chills that had me so wrapped into the book that a random noise went off in the house and it scared the living daylights out of me! I was that drawn into the story! The connection between Nick and Zoey solidified as the story progressed and how much they trust and care for each other. How much they will both fight for each other in the long run.
As a whole, this is by far my favorite read of 2019. I feel like my review is a gibbering mess because I can honestly not say enough about this book without throwing a spoiler out. I want to scream to the rooftops how epic it is. I really did not want it to end. And I have to say that I am usually not about the cover either, but when you read this story, you will understand how much the cover to this book means to the storyline. Mind blown. I think I am broken now! This book is full of suspense, intrigue, raw emotions and so much more! Pick this book up!

I finished this ARC yesterday and LOVED IT SO MUCH! This book was a masterpiece! I quickly fell in love with Nick (No, not my husband Nick. I think I like Nick Preston more than Mr. Anderson) He was SO attentive, so sweet, so protective, SO EVERYTHING!! This is why us women have such high standards for men! Because authors like Cambria write men like Nick for us to swoon over. I got the watered down Nick version. Yay go me.
& Zoey was so strong. She went through the most awful struggle, the most horrific type of trauma and came back fighting to take her life back! The chemistry between the two characters had me smiling and swooning throughout the whole book. At one point, I put my kindle down so I could text my friend and tell her how much I loved the story and didnt want it to end. It had the right amount of romance, lust & mystery! I was on the edge of my seat for the entire last 20%. I almost felt like I was watching a horror film. Awesome story.
