CHICAGO - UIC volleyball head coach Justin Ingram has added Katie Weidner in the role of assistant coach, Ingram announced on Monday. Weidner brings a wealth of international experience to the Flames, following stints with the Israel Ministry of Culture and Sport as well as the Israel Volleyball Federation.

Beginning in 2013, Weidner served as a head instructor at Athena, the Professional Unit of the National Project for the Advancement of Women in Sports under the Israel Ministry of Culture and Sport. While with Athena, Weidner focused on integrating school-based programs designed to promote female participation in athletics, while also coaching high-volume national youth training camps.

Weidner also took on a role with the Israel Volleyball Federation from 2015-17, coaching the youth and junior national teams. Weidner worked primarily with middle blockers and setters, in addition to her roles in scouting, recruiting and travel for the Israel National Team.

As a player, Weidner started her collegiate career at New Hampshire University, earning a spot on the 2003 America East All-Rookie Team before transferring to Marquette University. With the Golden Eagles, Weidner was a two-time Academic All-Big East Team member (2006-07), ranking seventh in career assists (2,308) and second in single-match assists (85).

After graduating Marquette with her bachelor of arts in psychology and criminology, Weidner played with the Croatia Premier League in 2008-09 before spending the next 10 years (2009-19) with the Israel Premier League. In 2016, Weidner attended Israel's Wingate Institute to further her education as an international volleyball coach and weightlifting instructor.
