Description

The Centre for Speech and Language Intervention Research (CSLIR) at University College London is providing an information session for SLTs and other AHPs working in the area of communication who are committed to clinical research as part of their career and are considering further study at the doctoral level (PhD).

Is this for me?

  • Are you keen to become/remain research active?
  • Do you have an idea for a project?
  • Confused by PhD funding options?
  • Unsure how to contact potential supervisors/mentors?
  • Need advice about the process of applying to the ICA HEE/NIHR Integrated Clinical Academic Programme to fund a PhD or a postdoc (clinical lecturer) position?
  • Wondering if you’re the kind of person they want to fund?

What will I get out of attending?

Insider information on the NIHR schemes and other funding sources: a short talk on the ICA Health Education England NIHR Integrated Clinical Academic Programme of funding, and on the ESRC Doctoral Training Partnership. Professor Karen Sage (Sheffield Hallam) will join us to talk about her experience of being on the judging panel for NIHR applications.

My journey to PhD: short presentations from SLTs at different stages of making their research goals a reality: an applicant to the NIHR Pre-doctoral Clinical Academic Fellowship scheme and funded PhD students.

Q&A session: get answers to your questions and practical advice from a panel of PhD students and staff.

Plus an opportunity to informally network with SLTs who are doing or have recently been awarded a PhD, and with staff with a range of research interests.

When and where is the session?

Wednesday 1st May 2019 at Chandler House (room B02 in the basement), 2 Wakefield Street, WC1N 1PF, from 6-8pm including refreshments.

Do I need to book?

Yes, but only so we can cater for numbers.
