Cliff’s Notes: Eric Mann

(FEBRUARY 25, 2016) Eric Mann, Director of the Labor Community Strategy Center, is one of the most marginalized players in Los Angeles politics, mainly because no one seems to know anything about his radical past.

Mann made news Wednesday after leading one of his front groups to disrupt, and ultimately shut down a Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) meeting.

Mann’s posse was so disrespectful that they talked over the Pledge of Allegiance, then continued to make more noise about a federal program responsible for transferring weapons to the LA School Police Department. LASPD protects nearly 1,100 schools under the LAUSD realm.

But in order to have proper perspective on any current story regarding Eric Mann, you must first understand that he is a Revolutionary intent on tearing down the system.

Here’s the Cliff’s Notes version:

  • Mann was a member of revolutionary groups Students for a Democratic Society and Weather Underground, which bombed government buildings and police cars back in the 1960s and 70s.

  • Mann recruits and trains LAUSD students to become revolutionary community organizers (via Mann’s Labor Community Strategy Center, Bus Riders’ Union, Fight for the Soul of the Cities, etc).

  • Mann mentored Patrisse Cullors (co-founder of Black Lives Matter). So that might explain why Mann’s group uses the same tactics to shut down LAUSD meetings that BLM uses to wreak havoc on the LAPD Commission.

Coincidentally, those weapon transfers that Mann’s screaming about came under fire after the Ferguson riots in the summer of 2014.  America watched on live television as the Black Lives Matter crowd threw Molotov cocktails at a police force that resembled a military.

Those images were all social justice warriors like Mann needed to launch a movement aimed at disarming the same police forces the federal government just armored up (not limited to the LA School Police Dept, which watches over more than 640,000 students in Mann’s prime recruiting ground).

Mann is organizing a national campaign against the federal 1033 program that transferred various weapons to several law enforcement agencies. Below is an edited excerpt from KFI Radio on the effort:
