What's New in the Episcopal Church in Maine

Prayers for...
the family and friends of the Rev. Cn. Roger Smith who died Sunday April 7th at his home at Granite Hill Estates in Hallowell, ME. All are welcome at his funeral service, which will be held at 11am on Friday, April 26 at St. Lukes's Cathedral in Portland.The family requests clergy attending please vest in alb and stole. the loved ones of the Rev. Cn. Dr. Richard H. Hall who returned to God on April 14th surrounded by family. A service in celebration of Dick's life will be held Saturday May 4 at 11am at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 27 Pleasant St., Brunswick, where he will be laid to rest in their Memorial Garden. Thanksgiving for...
the announcement that a majority of the bishops and standing committees of The Episcopal Church have consented to the election of the Rev. Thomas J. Brown as the Tenth Bishop of Maine. Thomas will be ordained and become our bishop on June 22.

Middle School Summer White Mountains Trip
Middle schoolers, look here! Join youth throughout the diocese for a walk in the woods of New Hampshire's White Mountains July 14 - 17. We will eat good food, play games, hike, worship, pray and enjoy creation. No fitness level or experience is necessary just a willingness to try. Youth from all over the state of Maine are invited to join.
Space is limited so please register by May 1st to secure a spot. Read trip details and register here. Adult leaders will be Meredith Cough, Peter Durgin, and Peggy Schnack. Voices of Faith and the Faithful in Maine
We are pleased to invite you to a special evening to honor Bishop Stephen T. Lane on the occasion of his retirement as the 9th Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Maine.
Bishop Lane has been a leading voice of faith on many issues during his time in Maine. We are bringing other leaders to talk about some of those policy areas including Ms. Heidi Shott, Rev. Dr. Marvin Ellison, Rev. Suzanne Roberts, MD, Rt. Rev. Thomas Ely - Bishop of Vermont, Rev. Jane Field, Mr. Ben Chin and Dr. Reza Jalali. After the issue talks we will shift to a panel discussion with Rabbi Carolyn Braun, Rev. Deborah Blood and Bishop Lane.

Annual Diocesan Retreat - June 14-16

As human beings, we are each part of the divinely created world. In spite of our busy lives, we are connected to nature, to one another, and to Christ. The annual retreat is an opportunity to step away from everyday life and explore these connections through deep conversations, scripture, worship, art, poetry and quiet reflection. Draw closer to God by immersing yourself in the natural beauty of the lake and woods and by joining with others to explore God's love for all of creation. In the words of Psalm 19, "The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims God's handiwork."

Please register now to attend Bishop Steve's and Gretchen's Farewell Gathering in the North on Saturday, May 11th at the Black Bear Inn and Conference Center in Orono, with a Holy Eucharist beginning at 2p.m. A Farewell Reception, with music and a brief program will follow.
Saturday, May 11th ~ Black Bear Inn & Conference Center, Orono (Registration required; no tickets available at door; $20 fee for reception portion of event) There will also be a Farewell Gathering South that begins Friday evening, May 17th at 5 p.m. at the Westin Portland Harborview Hotel and will include a Farewell Reception with music and a brief program and continues with a Festive Holy Eucharist at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18th at St. Luke's Cathedral, followed by hospitality and the unveiling of the Bishop's official portrait. Invite Welcome Connect Summit June 12-14
Mark your calendars for the fourth Invite Welcome Connect Summit to be held at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. From June 12-14, newcomers and seasoned practitioners from around the world will come together to share ideas and learn more about this powerful ministry. In addition to plenary talks and presentations, there will be workshops introducing first-timers to Invite Welcome Connect, and workshops for more experienced practitioners who want to further explore the theological truths and practicalities of each aspect of this ministry.
