BOOK OF PSALMS 2020 - AN EVENING SESSION
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Apart from the four Gospels, what other book in the Bible is used in every Mass? The Book of Psalms. Why is it so important? Is it simply a repository of beautiful poems that can be used as a response to the first reading? Why is it used as a response to the first reading in the first place? If you open the Bible and turn to the Book of Psalms, does it seem to you like a random collection of poems of various types? Do you know how the 150 psalms are organised? If the psalms are poems, why do the lines not rhyme? What is the meaning of individual psalms? Do you know that there are three psalms that are never used in liturgy, neither in the Mass nor in the Liturgy of the Hours? What’s wrong about those psalms? These are some of the important questions to be addressed in this course.
