This Unconscious Bias Awareness workshop is offered bimonthly for employees and trainees of the UNC School of Medicine.

Workshop Overview: The human mind observes the world and interacts with people in ways outside of our awareness. Awareness of these unconscious biases improves our understanding of the role the brain plays in addressing the challenges to diversity and inclusion, and enables us to improve decision-making skills, employee engagement, team inclusiveness, and cross-cultural communication.

Learning objectives and outcomes:

This workshop is a core requirement of the SOM DEI Certificate Program for SOM faculty and staff. The DEI Certificate Program is designed for SOM faculty/staff to broaden their understanding of topics critical to achieving Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and to promote personal, professional, and institutional growth. This initiative is strongly aligned with the SOM's Strategic Imperative on Diversity and Inclusion - to achieve diversity and a culture of belonging that reflects the people of NC and demonstrates our commitment to treat and serve them well.

If you have questions, then please contact Dr. Ashalla Freeman at ashalla@unc.edu.
