State Advisory Council for Exceptional Children to meet virtually Dec. 10

(FRANKFORT, KY) – The State Advisory Council for Exceptional Children (SACEC) will meet virtually Dec. 10 at 1 p.m. ET.

Pursuant to Executive Order 2020-243 and a memorandum issued by the Finance and Administration Cabinet dated March 16, 2020, and in an effort to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the SACEC will meet utilizing a video teleconference. 

In July 2018, the governor issued an Executive Order relating to the reorganization of various education boards and councils. The State Advisory Council for Exceptional Children shall have the following duties:

  • Advise the General Assembly, Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Board of Education, Education Professional Standards Board, and School Curriculum and Accountability Council of unmet needs and desired program changes related to the education of children with disabilities, including proposed corrective action plans and personnel development needs;
  • Review and comment on rules or regulations proposed by the Commonwealth relating to the education of children with disabilities and the procedures for distribution of funds under Part B of Public Law 101-476;
  • Review and comment on written findings of fact and decisions from due process hearings, including reports issued by federal and state authorities relating to exceptional children;
  • Advise the General Assembly, KDE, Justice and Safety Cabinet and other public agencies on eligible students with disabilities in state and local prisons; and
  • Provide opportunities for public input through public hearings or during general meetings.
