Williamsburg Winery employee Michael Slimick helps with the harvest Wednesday September 4, 2019 as they try to get chardonnay grapes picked ahead of the expected rain from hurricane Dorian. Several volunteers assisted in the effort which started at 3 A.M. this morning. Excess rain could cause already ripe grapes to burst according the wine-maker Matthew Meyer making in important to get them out of the fields.

Williamsburg Winery worker Carlos Catalan works Wednesday morning September 4, 2019 to get ripe chardonnay grapes out of the fields ahead of hurricane Dorian. Harvesting started at 3 A.M. and several volunteers from the local community came out to help in the effort.

The Williamsburg Winery moved up its grape harvest as hurricane Dorian threatens to dump a lot of rain on the Peninsula possibly ruining the crop.
